Firefox slowdown, crashing on digg and google maps, any ideas?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I just tried to preview this post this earlier but Firefox crashed on me. I'm having problems with it and they are the same that I had about 4 months back and had to reinstall. I don't want to have to do that again so hopefully someone knows a fix for this instead.

The two main problems where it is most noticeable are loading Digg pages where it will take forever and often crash. The other is on google maps where all the maps look like the screenshot below. I haven't installed any new plugins and have tried clearing the cache, I'm not sure what else it might be and was hoping someone could help? Thanks.

It's doing it on neowin too, it seems like it's automatically shrinking images or something. I turned off the auto resize in forefox but that didn't do anything either.

I'm posting this using IE because when I try and reply to this post in FF it just crashes. If you look at the two arrows and the image under the comments button, they are both jagged and shunk.

Nevermind, I fixed it.

For some reason imagezoom.defaultGlobalZoom was set to 90 so it was zooming out of images and making them smaller and jagged I guess. I put it to 100 and it seems fine now. Not sure why it was doing that.

Have you tried uninstalling Firefox, deleting your user profile, then reinstalling?

What extensions are you using? Try disabling them one by one.

Edit: I've just seen that you've fixed it.

lol wow, overkill there, man.

Data loss should only be suggested after exploring all other paths...

Yeah, I'm glad you found the solution, and for future reference, Ctrl +0 resets the global zoom level for Firefox3.

And Brodel, you might want to avoid posting adblock-enabled screen caps of neowin in the future. ;)

How would data be lost? It's quick and easy to backup Firefox.
Of course it is easy to back up a profile. I know it is, you know it is, but in what part of:

...do you mention backing up? :trout:

:p
