HawkMan
and only 50 of them suck :p bah, there are never any good mods untill at least 2-3 years into the games life, and even then those mods are still just betas at that time. sure mutators re quick and easy, and can be fun.... for 5 minutes... +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 2, 2008 Author Subscriber² Share Posted February 2, 2008 Those are "mods"? I'll stick to PC gaming. And the ironic thing to that statement, any PC UT3 mod can run on the PS3.
+StevoFC MVC Posted February 2, 2008 MVC Share Posted February 2, 2008 I'll download some maps once I get my new HDD which should be Monday or Tuesday. No point in getting them now.
Ayepecks
And the ironic thing to that statement, any PC UT3 mod can run on the PS3. I don't think you understood the statement. There aren't any good "mods" for the game. I'll stick to PC gaming, where I have a choice of games to mod. Notice I didn't say "I'll stick to UT3 on the PC." UT3 hasn't got much of a look from mod-makers... they're sticking with Source.

The game has hardly been out for ages, it seems as if you're expecting total overhaul mods - HL2/Source was the same in the early days as well. (now I don't think UT3 will ever be as good as source, but it should still have some nice overhaul mods built up over the years) The amount of maps can't be overlooked, there is probably some gems in there - You know free maps, something I despise about DLC as you end up paying for 2~3 maps (I think they should bundle up more if they're going to charge money). Uhh, UT3 was just released - give it a chance.. There are still no real mods on Source that arent completely crap :/ Except Dystopia - seems to be the most complete one as of yet.. The previous UT games had some awesome mods, Red Orchestra for one - which won a contest - now being sold standalone on steam
Ayepecks
Erm, no it wasn't. Half-Life 2: CTF didn't take long to come out, and many other mods were announced to have started as well. UT3 is not in the same situation as Half-Life 2 and Source was in the least bit at all. As for maps -- there are plenty in UT3 to begin with, I never really had a problem playing the standard maps in online FPS games unless there was just some absolutely amazing fan-made map, which occurs occasionally. It did not come out 1~2 months after HL2. I know as I played it from the beginning. edit: Half-Life 2 Capture the Flag Alpha 61 Mod (exe) [PC]This is the first public alpha release for the mod that brings Capture the Flag to... 14 February 2005 Source: http://209.85.129.104/search?q=cache:06D2Y...lient=firefox-a 4 months for first public release. But anyway, let's leave this pointless discussion... more mod overhauls/maps/mutators will come, it is early days and I only posted this topic to let people know what was going on in the mod scene. It came out ~1-2 months after HL2: DM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life_2_Deathmatch http://www.gpdownloads.co.nz/dl.dyn/Files/3495.html And the second link isn't the first release. +StevoFC MVC Posted February 2, 2008 MVC Share Posted February 2, 2008 Last time I looked at the title this thread was about UT3...and in the Sony Console section. HL2 comparisons don't belong here. Get over it.
HawkMan
I'd rather stick to UT 2k3/2k4 when it comes to mods than source. UT still has a far larger library of mods than source will ever have. though modding is fading compared to the huge mod community from the UT and Quake days. ut thebest modders are still the ones who code for UT, and they canbring most oftheir work from previus UT engines to the new ones. so when it coms to modding, UT is to one to stick with, especially since Quake pretty much died, at least as far as modding goes. but that still leaves a year or two before any decent UT3 mods start appearing in beta form anywhere. and Epic loves to give good support and such to good mods. so the good mod will most likely appear as official downloads sponsored by epic on all platforms. but as I said, that's a long way to go yet. Ayepecks
Last time I looked at the title this thread was about UT3...and in the Sony Console section.HL2 comparisons don't belong here. Get over it. When you're discussing the state of the mod community for UT3 and where it will be, yes, it does belong. I brought up Source-engine games having good mods, and someone said there weren't any so I clarified. Huleboeren: If you're in the alpha, Firearms 2 is available -- and good ;) And I thought those mods you said were 'WIP' were good, but to each his own. And, as I said, I only mentioned the ones off the top of my head, hence why I forgot it. I'm sure UT3 will get better mods, but I don't think it will rival UT2KX's since that was a better game (IMO) and more people had decided to develop for it before it was even released. Still, mods are good for the PS3, but I really don't think these current releases are that great (from the ones I've seen released on PC, which are the same). Maybe they'll get some better ones in the future. If Epic does another "Make Something Unreal" it'll get better.
