EA dev: PSN has the capabilities to rival Xbox Live

Recommended Posts

Electronic Arts are bring the game Army of Two to our consoles sometime soon. The assistant producer for the title, Matt Turner, has come out and said some pretty positive things regarding the PlayStation Network. While admitting the accessibility of all functions with Xbox Live give it the slight edge, Turner says the PSN has all the capabilities to support everything its competitor does.

Expect some workarounds to the PSN in Army of Two like what EA accomplished in Burnout Paradise. "We have friends lists accessible during the game, you can send invites and your friends can join you - it's as easy as doing it on Xbox Live," he says with what we assume was a clever grin. When we do get in-game XMB access and Home, the weights might shift to a more level playing field between Live and PSN, but we'll see.

I can't wait til someone from this thread who bashed EA comes in here and says that EA does have some merit.

OT: I still think the PSN has a little ways to go to get caught up, but maybe this will spur MS into giving us some cool new features. Gotta enjoy competition.

You can say EA suck at making some games but still think they have merit you know, there is a difference between creating something that sucks but realising something that could have potential. :p

It doesn't take EA to tell us that PSN has the capabilities to rival Xbox Live, we know it could happen, and could be put into effect, it just isn't, the base is there, it just needs to be built upon properly.

But Sony are heading in a different direction anyway, they are making HOME, which while has similar functions underneath, serves a different purpose.

PSN does have the capability of XBL, but what PSN lack is experience XBL has been here for years and it know that to run a gaming network like this will require constant 24 hr support. Which I think with PSN being free and the growing number of PS3 and PSP owners will require Sony to start charging customers with similar fees in near future.

I think Sony only made it free becuase it had too IMHO. Its the foundation and is in its very early fundamental stages. Im really thinking that when we see PS4 arrive that it will also come with a paid for serivce of online play once Sony has it setup to really rival that of Live. When they are dumping tons of money into integration with games and such then there will be a nominal fee like Live has. Until then, Sony will boast its free until its up to par of Live.

I doubt it - once we see the xbox720 that is where LIVE will go free of charge.

The only features LIVE has over PSN are global invites :/ I doubt that would put THAT much more strain on PSN that theyd have to charge a monthly fee..

- If there is anything more LIVE offers then it is not MS that provides it, it is the users themselves..

Im glad they EA are offering these ingame-xmbish features in their new games - I wish Sony had it as requirement, at least until they had implemented ingame XMB themselves..
