+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 9, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted February 9, 2008 An advanced Target ad for the week beginning February 24 lists a base slimline PlayStation 2 console for $99. It?s unknown if the price reduction will be exclusive to Target stores or if it is retail wide.Retailers usually don?t place temporary sales on hardware, so we?re hoping for the latter. Either way, $99 PS2 at Target on February 24. Better mark your calendars if you still have yet to pick up a PS2. Source: http://exophase.com/ps2/target-cuts-ps2-pr...feb-24-3264.htm Everyone probably has one, but if you want to upgrade to a slim, or bought a non-bc PS3, here's a chance to get a PS2! <:) />:)
Tech Star
They should have done this during Christmas, but still great deal! :)
Ayepecks
Finally coming down in price :) IMO, it's not a great deal given that it's a PS2 and you can buy one for $50 on eBay or somewhere else used. Still, good if anyone wants one new... it was definitely a great console. Probably the best of last gen.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted February 9, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 9, 2008 I've seen $99 PS2 consoles all over the place (Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Futureshop) well before this.
sundayx Veteran Posted February 9, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 9, 2008 It's still quite expensive... I mean if it was 49 I'd get it, but 99 on something that was released when Pentium III was around, I'll pass and save up.
StevoJD
Lower it to $79.99 :p

Ayepecks
lol complain much?, its 99 dollars. some people are never satisfied. Is there a reason to be satisfied with this? It's still too expensive for a console that's 7-8 years old or so.
Raa
Agreed. Would you pay $100 for a computer thats 8 years old? No you wouldn't.....
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 9, 2008 Author Subscriber² Share Posted February 9, 2008 (edited) Agreed.Would you pay $100 for a computer thats 8 years old? No you wouldn't..... Would a computer that is 8 years old have the gaming library the PS2 has? Not to mention the PS2 is still being supported, and God of War is rumoured to be hitting it. 99$ is not expensive for a PS2, maybe for you, but not for the gaming community. Heck the thing still sells well at $129. It should be lower by now, but by the way it's selling and the support it still has it's making too much profit for Sony to drop it to something like $50. Ajapi
$99 is a great price point. It implies that for $189, you can get a Playstation 2, the Devil May Cry Box Set, Grand Theft Auto Box Set and Metal Gear Solid: Essential Box Set. This is effectively a console and 9 top-grade games for under $200. It may be old technology, but good games pass the test of time. Add another $20 and you can get God of War; you'll probably end up buying it sequel as well (yeah, it's that good). $20 more and you get Shadow of the Colossus. Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2, Final Fantasy XII, Tekken 5, Gran Turismo.. an interminable list of 5 star games available for a third of what a current gen game will go for. As you guys said, $99 for a 7 year old piece of hardware isn't really an amazing deal. $99 for a device that allows you to play some of the greatest games in recent history, however, seems like a pretty good idea to me ;) Granted, most who possibly could have wanted one will probably have already purchased it, but this might entice more casual gamers looking for a quick play once in a while. Narlzac85
Good. I need another one and have been waiting for it to go down. It will be my 4th PS2 and completely worth it. None of my PS2's were lost to hardware failure either. Here's the list of their demise: 1) Power surge ($300) 2) It was making some noise and I punched it with a disc still spinning and ruined the laser (used: $0) 3) Stolen over thanksgiving...honestly, who steals a PS2 in 2007 (at least the thief left my memory cards and controllers and somehow didn't think to take my huge collection of games/computer software) (barely used $150 with games and stuff)

Narlzac85
Um, it would have a FAR, FAR, FAR bigger one. The difference is that you wouldn't be able to play the PC games from the 8th year with the hardware from the 1st year. Also, the types of games that are good on the console and on PC don't intersect usually, so you should really have both.

If you're an RPG nut, a PS2 for $99 will be like heaven for you. That console has one of the largest RPG selections around and it has a lot more (Y) ones than (N) ones.
