dragon2611
Warhawk is quite fun although its online only. Also Uncharted:Drakes fortune is a must, it's arguably one of the Best games out on ps3 at the moment if not the best.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 9, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted February 9, 2008 On the games side there isn't much. EGM pretty much got it spot on with their latest mag... :p In terms of gaming anyway... Yeah there are some great titles on the PS3, but just not the abundance of great titles like the 360. In terms of FPS games, the only real exclusives to the PS3 not on the 360 are RFOM and UT3 (as of now). Warhawk is a great shoot em up, but it's 3rd person. Uncharted & R&C are others as you've mentioned everyone buys. Most of the other big reviewed titles are multiplatform which is no big deal if you only own a PS3, but if you own both it may mean less playing on your PS3. Right now I solely use my PS3 as my HD/SD video player. That is one area it trumps all competition. I still play some PSN titles and Warhawk every now and then and im going to buy uncharted & r&c soon. I'm pretty skint :p 2008 though will have the PS3s big exclusives but as for timing, I'd at least wait till GDC to see if we hear about price drops and this 160GB model. I don't advising buying this close to GDC.

PyX
Look, it's all about the games you like. I almost bought a Wii, but it didn't have that many games that I wanted to play (Zelda for sure, Super Mario, Smash Brawl, Metroid, but nothing else...) so I bought a PS3, knowing that there STILL isn't much to play. Also, didn't like the graphics of the Wii, so even though the controls looked awesome, I didn't want to get it. Anyway, seriously, look for the games you like. I will enjoy FF13 (Well I hope so...) I play Rock Band, Assasin's creed, etc. Obviously many games on the PS3 are also on the 360, but I hate the 360, so... ;)
Ayepecks
As with any console, I'd say, if you like the games, get it. But, and I'm not trying to cause a massive e-pene contest here, judging from what you want... your 360 has that. The 360's a good FPS console, IMO, and it also has RTS games (C&C3, Universe at War, Halo Wars, Battle for Middle-Earth). If you want RPGs and a lot of action (not necessarily FPS, though there are some), go PS3 IMO.

kak
In short, yes. Look at the games available now and will be immediately available. Also, if you have an HDTV, go ahead over to monoprice and pick up an HDMI before the local B&M price gouges you on it. I have a PS3 and I love it. About the only game I play right now is Call of Duty 4 since the online mode is simply awesome. I use it for playing Blu-Rays when I'm not gaming on it. Its a pretty good package for me. Tech Star
The PS3 is worth it, but if you want more games then wait. There should be a price cut too so if you wait you can prob. get that.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 9, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted February 9, 2008 I'm thinking about getting a PS3 also but I'm not sure if the online play is as good as xbox live. No frills online play is fine, as in when on an actual server it works great. A few of the tops PS3 games have dedicated servers as well. All that is missing is the unified in game messaging/access to menus like on Live. The core online play is fine, but the extra features that improve socialising/matchmaking might not be as good as Live. It's a free service that is continually set to improve, so you can't really loose if you go into it with the right mindset - Thinking yeah Live currently offers more, but PSN is decent, I don't pay for it and it WILL continue to head upwards. rukiri
I never quite understand ppl who buy a console for games that *will* come out. If you're wondering if you want to buy a PS3 *NOW*, take a look at the games available *NOW* Are you going to actually use the thing when you buy it? or will it sit in your media cabinet collecting dust as you wait for games to come out? meanwhile the 45nm shrink comes out, and smaller, cooler, cheaper *and* more reliable PS3's are released. So then what was the point of buying early? Also, people keep mentioning the same two games, FFXIII and MGS4 Who knows how the games will turn out? What if FFXIII is another FFVIII? It's seems silly to me to expect a game will be good based solely on the brand. As if brands haven't gone to crap before? C'mon guys. Buy games based on actual quality, and that you don't know for sure till the game is released. Till then, enjoy your money on things you'll actually use! Because they are two huge franchises everyone wants to see? If you do some research you'll find a ton of other stuff coming out, but if someone asks me name the big hitters for the general community I'll say FF, MGS, GT, LBP, ect.... instead of going Afrika, Team ICOs new game, Infamous, ect - Other titles people are looking into, but there is no backing to know if they WILL be AAA titles. It's a safe bet to assume MGS/FF are going to be AAA games and receive very high scores all round. It's just like those people who go name the biggest 360 games and they go HALO, THATS IT. When in reality there is a ton of games that are reviewed well and great to play. On face value people are always going to name drop the popular well established franchises at their first base. Xtreme $niper
I am very slightly considering a PS3, but only for the blu-ray functionality. Any gaming I do on it would be a bonus, as all my gaming is currently done on my 360. I played Ratchet and Clank at the Sony Store because I've heard good things about it. I was disappointed. I guess it's a mix of not such a great demo and a crappy controller (I personally hate the PSX controllers. They're unnatural to the human hand.) Regardless, I would only purchase one for movies as I said above because it would be the best valued player, but even then I'm still waiting it out to see if cheaper blu-ray players come out. You might be waiting a while, and even if cheaper players come out they probably won't match the quality of the PS3. It seems Sony & the Blu Ray Group are pushing the PS3 as the Blu Ray player to have. Which I can't say is terribly wrong, it is a great player, profile 1.1 support and will support profile 2.0, supports DTS and all the top end audio options... it's not as if it's like the PS2 which played DVDs well but really wasn't a top end DVD player. Still it would be nice to see quality standalone Blu Ray players come down and be cheaper than the PS3 soon - A lot of people just don't want to own a PS3, they just want a Blu Ray player, no matter how many people try and explain how much better your bang for buck is with a PS3 as $400 is still a lot of money! And if you do that legally, it would mean buying an HD DVD movie, ripping it to your PC and then transferring it to the PS3. Slightly time consuming and you do miss out on subtitles/extra content but im just saying for the sake of it, it can be done.
