Xerino
Well after a long time of debating Ive finally decided to get a PS3 over the X360, however, I do not have a HDTV to hook it up to, I got my 37 inch Mitsubishi (circa 1998). I will not be able to afford a HDTV for some time, so Im stuck using this behemoth, I was wondering if anyone has any pic comparisons for 480 vs. 1080 and see if getting a PS3 is worth it. I tried googling it, but no luck

I tried googling it, but no luck well there is a huge difference between 480p and 1080i/p ummm well as for the PS3 being worth it i cant say but it depends on what games you plan to play cause with your SDTV it would not do to much justic to get a 360 or PS3 cause you wont get the best out of it, my take is maby think about a Nintendo Wii as it is not HD and it may have games you might want to play
Xerino
Let me rephrase this, does anyone have any SDTV pics of the PS3 games and/or software, like the web broswer, interface, etc....
williamhook
If you want I could take a photograph of Burnout Paradise in 480p on my HDTV, as well as 1080p. It'd actually be 720p though as that is the highest that that game can go - it's also a good comparison though because Burnout Paradise has a LOT of detail, even in 720p. Plus if you want I could also show you a still from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on BluRay, and flOw, which is a PSN game. (both 480p vs 1080p). :)

King Antonius
If its a standard SDTV you have, then you wont get 480p. That is still considered High Def. The main problem you will have, is some games it will be difficult to read the text, as hey are designed for HD-TV's. My mate has his PS3 on a 15 Inch SDTV, and although the menu is blury, If you've never owned a HDTV, you wont see a problem.

dragon2611
I got a box of tricks Off ebay that takes in 720p component and spits it out at 1280x760 VGA Although It's one of the cheapo ones so it only supports 480p/720p its a bit of a trick to get the PS3 into 720p mode when you can't see the display.... I just used the tv near my computer went and selected 720p but didn't confirm, swapped the cables around and then hit confirm although its probably not the best thign for the PS3 to swap the AV cables with it on. There is a more expensive converter that can handle 1080p but we have a HDTV downstairs anyway I only use it for playing in the bedroom as my PC monitor is a lot better than my TV. williamhook
That would be perfect, thankk you :) http://william-hook.com/external/index.php?dir=ps3_res (I'll delete them in about a week from now.) Not the best shots, but you can see some difference - the XMB does scale well though, down to 576p. FYI, you can go lower if you didn't use HDMI, but I've no idea where my original composite cable is to show you. :p
StevoJD
480i is just a bummer to play in, for me it totally ruined the experience. Everything was so damn hard to read! The Wii was the only console that provided readable games for standard-def gamers.
EnzoFX
Do you have a computer monitor? You'll probably get better results.
Piggy
Ok, text is not that difficult to read on a SDTV. I have the option of playing on 1080p 24" LCD monitor and a SDTV. I keep going back to the TV. It's just more comfortable. Other than the text, I really don't see that much difference since games are mostly 720p anyway.
