Alfista
Guys Its been almost a month since I have my PS3.. And i truly enjoy it too much. I have few questions though none in particular order. 1-) I live in turkey and when signing up a PS3 account from Turkey I can not access the PS store because none available in Turkey. So I registered through UK and i can access ps3 store. If anyone can sign up an account from any country than what is the purpose of not having a global PS store? I am also thinking of signing up from USA with another username. 2-) Are the batteries on the controllers (both sixaxis and dualshock 3) good quality? Can i recharge them anytime i want right after playing a game without waiting the batteries to run out? So i can always have full battery. 3-) Why is dualshock 3's vibration is much much lesser than XBOX's? can it be adjustable? It feels very weak. 4-) In the future will Sony release a firmware that will allow us to check messages without leaving a game? Also will there be a Restart game option when clicking the PS button on the controllers. I know there is quit game option but a restart game option would not hurt as well. 5-) Is Unreal Tournamelt lagging for you too? fires get out of my cannons a second later. How can i find european servers? 6-) When running oblivion at high definition do you guys sometimes notice framerate slowdown? is it normal? 7-) What is the life expectancy of a PS3 console? I remember my XBOX (first one) used to get broken after 1 year and in one occasion after 3 months. 8-) Can I install Unreal Tournament to a external harddisk instead of the original PS3 harddisk? 9-) And finally anyone believe that he/she can beat me at Fifa 2008.. I challange you... MY PS account is Arda1905... Please add me to play games like fifa, COD4, Unreal, Resistance, Warhawk, Burnout... :) I will be happy if anyone can answer at least one question... I cant really find detailed answers over the net... Thank you.
+StevoFC MVC Posted February 12, 2008 MVC Share Posted February 12, 2008 1. who knows why? its sony...they do what they want. 2. from what i have seen the batteries are alright. you can charge them any time you want with the usb cable. 3 no it's just weaker 4. in game xmb has been a rumor for some time. should be done eventually. 5. barely any european servers as of now. the game hasn't been out there. 6. don't have it... 7. ps3 failure rate is very low. around 1% 8. not that i know of. booboo
6.) The framerate will run lower in oblivion at HD because it has to render the graphics at a higher resolution. And when it get's too intense (a lot of tree's, smoke, a wide angle with a hell of a lot of stuff) It will slow down. Like most games, unless they've been specifically optimized

Well i am glad that ps3 failure rate is 1% and so far i should just hope I am not that 1% :) Also if rumors are true than an in game XMB would be simply fantastic. It is so annoying that I have to quit a game when online or in a campaing just to check a message from a friend. And most of the time its just a HI :( Also for me Dualshock 3 is a dissapointment than. Sixaxis was even more childish without vibration but dualshock's vibration is way too weak. I cant get the sense. Thanx for the replies. 6.) The framerate will run lower in oblivion at HD because it has to render the graphics at a higher resolution. I know it is a gigantic game and even my 8800 gtx barely handled it with some sucky nvidia drivers but i would hope to see this game to be more optimized for HD on PS3. FiB3R
1. I've signed up to the US store too, so I can get demo's that are not out in the UK yet. I just hope they don't block it any time soon. 2. I presume that they are good quality, but I don't really know if you should let the battery's run flat before you charge them each time. Does it say anything about that in the manual? 3. Haven't got a dualshock 3 yet, and didn't know that the rumble was weak. I'm sure somebody out there will hack it soon, if it hasn't been done already. 4a. That sounds like a perfectly possible feature for a future update, but who knows right now? 4b. Why would you need/want a restart game option? You just pause and exit right? then the game is back at the beginning. 5. I don't have Unreal Tournament for the PS3, Can a keyboard and mouse be used to play it? If so, I'd buy it. 6. I don't have Oblivion for the PS3. 7. I expect all my hardware to last for ever. (Seriously) 8. No 9. I'll add you next time I get a chance So, all in all, not a very helpful reply to your post! lol sorry.

I'll add you next time I get a chance So, all in all, not a very helpful reply to your post! lol sorry. well yeahh i would be dissapointed if sony decides to block to register from a different country. When i bought my PS3 i assumed my country would be chosen automatically by the network provider's IP adress. I was suprised to see that I could register from a different country. I wish they had it globally. And about the batteries some people told me for an optimum battery life its better to let the batteries run out and recharge them. For me this method is useless because just when i need the controller i dont want to get the low battery warning and hook up the controller with that short excuse of a usb cable PS3 provided us. For unreal. yes it does support mouse and keyboard though i am so used to playing ps3 with the controllers. I find them good at aiming. However be ware.. The lag in this game is HORRIBLE. We need a patch and european servers for Unreal to be a great game. ohh also i want the restart option because of pure laziness. :) Sometimes i need to exit a game for some reason and restart it. I dont want to quit and find the game in the menu and start again. I just want a restart button :) Sure thing add me to your list.. Anyone can add me and please do. I am a bad ass killer at resistance fall of men and probably the toughest oponnent at fifa :) The PS3 will be supported for 10 years like the PS1 and PS2. I remember buying my xbox 4 years ago and thought i would play it forever... Just this year i gave it to my 10 year old cousin with all of my games because the graphics were so outdated. Honestly i dont see ps3 as a long terminvestment at all. Just a funbox to keep me entertained at home for a few years until the newer one comes out.. I was planning to get UT3 on PS3 when it releases here later this month, I think I'll just scratch that now! To Oblivion, yes it does lag up when there is alot going on. When I'm in a big fight with lots of people/creatures or there is just alot going on (on screen) it can lag up really bad. I was actually surprised, I heard it was suppose to be better optimised then the 360 version, yet I find the 360 version runs smooth (but the PS3 version looks better) :/ I actually find the Sixaxis (don't know about Dualshock 3 yet) batteries not that good, I'm often having to recharge it. I guess I've been spoilt by the 360, it's wireless controller batteries last ages* before needing a recharge and that it with rumble enabled. * = Battery charge experience is based on my "normal" gaming usage, under "heavy" gaming usage batteries on both consoles tend to drain in a matter of hours :p Edited February 12, 2008 by Xerxes
booboo
I beg to differ with the xbox controllers, I was having to buy new batteries every half week (normal usage) because it kept dying on me (yes I didnt buy a charger.. ah well) and the ps3 lasts me weeks at time. I don't mind plugging it in though because I have a 3 metre usb cable which I found lying about :D

Coldgunner
I think UT3 has locally hosted games same as on PC, both me a my friends have imported the US version so we should be lag free (hopefully). however connecting to US servers seems fine for me. UT is a GREAT game.. I said i have lag but thats maybe because i live in Turkey... When i connect to a UK server my ping is 180ish at busy times of the day and when i connect to US servers my ping is over 400... so if you have a great connection than this problem would never occur for you. UT3 is really a great game... We just need more players. However with resistance fall of men i do not have any prıoblems at all even with 180 ping.. its so smooth. perhaps because its a much slower game than UT.. Ok quickie.. I will be buying a pS3 game in a few hours Which one would you suggest? Devil May Cry 4 Uncharted COD4 Turok Darkness Orange box (how is the online support of this game? laggy or smooth as resistance?) Also when will we get some creepy games for PS3 like resident evil? I want to get scared a bit.. I doubt Darkness is a scary game. Edited February 12, 2008 by Alfista
Nightz
get uncharted. it's an awesome game that hasn't gotten as much attention as it deserves. i don't think you can go wrong with dmc4 or cod4 either. resident evil 5 won't be out for a while...rumor has it that it'll be out later this year, but i think 2009 would be a safer bet. Alfista
thanx for the replies once more.. I will go with this order 1-) Uncharted 2-) later this month COD4 (i hope the patch is out as everyone is talking about) 3-) devil may cry (next month) the reviews said Turok was not a great but OK game.. anyone played it? how is the multiplayer? I thought he meant the game itself was really laggy, I must not of read his post probally  in that case, it can go back on my list :) I got Turok the other day too, haven't played it yet but I quite liked the demo though, I was gonna get that for the 360 (now that it is back) but I decided PS3 could have that one :p
Alfista
Ah guys just realized one thing... My Unreal Tournament is from region 1 (usa)... will this mean that although the game might be published in Europe soon, i will not be able to connect to European servers? Same thing goes with COD4 as well... If i get a region 1 COD4 game will i only connect to American servers?

Alfista
thats a game specific issue, r:fom uses worldwide servers (at least now it does). think r6:v is worldwide too. so i decided to pick up Uncharted and Devil May Cry 4... Devil May Cry 4 seems a lot of fun so far. Just played 1 level. Too bad i never played the previous ones. Also the game installed itself on my harddisk. I wonder how much disk space it used... I bought the 40 gb version believing it would be more than enough room for saved games but it seems 40 gb is very limited.. I wish sony had launched a higher gigabyte than 80 gb as well. Or is it possible to change the harddisk on PS3 with an after market harddisk? will it be compatible The other game i picked up Uncharted is SOOO much fun to play. I hope to see such games in the future. It is plain fun. A very good game for consoles.
+StevoFC MVC Posted February 14, 2008 MVC Share Posted February 14, 2008 You can replace the ps3 HDD with any 2.5 inch SATA drive. I put a 160gb one in mine. If you want to see how much space DMC4 is taking up you can check. There is a section for stored game data that will tell you each game and how much is installed.
