markwolfe Veteran Posted February 12, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 12, 2008 ^^^ What kind of answer is that? If a distro name is going to be thrown up, it should be something specific, like DSL (Damn Small Linux). That particular distro offers Fluxbox as a Window Manager, and is only a 50MB download. (Y) Throwing out "Gentoo" doesn't explain which WM to use, or any other guides on how to keep it slim. Certainly Gentoo with Gnome would be a poor choice for that old Fujitsu computer. kyro
I suggest, http://slax.org or damsmall linux.
mitch00
Hmm. Depends how much time you have to invest into the machine. Crux with Fluxbox, Openbox or some other lightweight window manager will probably be ridiculously fast for the hardware. However Crux is a pain to set up. So maybe DSL like mark said would be a better choice if you want a quicker/easier solution.
