I recently learned of a PayPal eCheck payment method. Is this different from a standard PayPal transaction using existing PayPal funds? PayPal eChecks seem to add a four day delay in the same way as NOCHEX does. I had previously assumed that all PayPal transactions were relatively fast.

The purpose in doing this is to warn potential subscribers that some payment methods are faster than others and that some payment methods may involve a mutli-day waiting period.

In this world of instant fulfillment, most members expect the badge to arrive instantly. Some payment methods may also involve manual intervention (obviously a posted cheque involves the most).

Again, I know that a few of you have experienced longer than expected delays for whatever reason. I apologize again in advance but please help us try to improve our communication in this area.

Paypal with UK debit card as well, almost instant too :)

My friend recently had to pay with a eCheque and he told me it didn't clear for 4 days as well... I once didn't have the option to pay with my card and use eCheque so I just added funds to my account and paid direct as I wasn't willing to wait 4 days lol

I used paypal (and it was within minutes) but don't use them anymore and never will. (That's another topic so I won't discuss it)

For me, the payment wasn't the problem, it was Neowin's habitual practice of being oh-so-slow at getting anything done, with ignored PM's and weeks of delays. I'm sure everyone has seen more than 1 thread regarding this behavior.

I'm not flame baiting, but I hope that Neowin has found a way to make sure requests are processed in a timely fashion instead of making it seem like something hasn't been processed with a payment yet.

Sorry, I excluded debit cards from the original poll.

We don't tend to have Visa or M/C Debit cards here because the Big 5 Canadian banks got there first (with Interac payment cards). Maybe that has changed over the years though especially with online sales.

I just null voted to see the results. Can anyone answer my PayPal eCheck question? Is that a separate service or is that just the fancy name associated with paying from existing PayPal funds. I have a feeling that they take it directly from your bank (like a money order).

If there is always a four day delay with eCheck transfers then I'd like to warn potential subscribers (just as a heads up).

Yep, an eCheck is when the "source" of the money in your PayPal account is your bank account. Technically it's a different service, but it just depends on what your payment preferences are/what payment sources you have on your account. PayPal have to wait for their money to clear, so they make you wait for it too (can't blame them really).

Payments made with an existing balance or a credit/debit card are instant and are labelled as "PayPal Instant Payment".

It is possible to send an instant payment from your bank account if you have a credit/debit card on file - they send the money immediately, and then attempt to take the money from your bank. If your bank doesn't clear the funds, they take it from your card.

BTW, when I was a subscriber, I payed via PayPal instant payment and it was almost instant.

I paid with PayPal using existing funds in my account, took nearly 3 days to clear due to the exchange rates, etc. But it was worth it.

Since I usually only hear about the messes, I am pleased to see that the system works well for most people.
