streaming to PS3

Recommended Posts

I have various tv shows on my linux server that i'd like to stream to my ps3. The problem is I can't find something decent that'll run on linux and stream reliably. I have tried gmediastream/ustram and mediatomb.

All 3 work to an extent (mediatomb less so), but none of them can reliably work when files are added to/removed from the streamed directories. Has anyone got any other suggestions on what to try?

Features I'd want should be simple enough, stream the directory (and its subdirectories) in a structure matching the file system (so no meta data parsing required), allow fast forwarding/rewinding/resuming of playback and allow for adding/removing files on the fly without restarts.

I think TVersity will work on Linux as it's Java or something. I'm not 100% sure though, so check it out. I've got it running on my XP laptop (it kept crashing on my Vista box), and it works like a dream - copy stuff to the laptop, Remote Desktop to it, refresh library, and then watch said TV show on TV. :D

3 problems with tversity:

1. its windows only at the mo (could work with wine tho, but would prefer something native)

2. last time i checked, it didn't keep the file system structure and put the media in its own file structure (eg videos/<genre>). i want something to keep the file structure instead

3. it's slow as hell :p

edit:

if i have the layout set to file system, the folders lose the casing (eg i have ABC which become Abc), the only way to fix that is to have the custom layout set...which then gives me an extra folder, called 'Folders' and gives me access to the library anyway...

also there isn't a way to automatically refresh the library remotely which i need too.

anyone have any other suggestions on what to use?
