The Teej
Ok I've been digging around some Chains' screenshots and I've come across quite a few now that are in an abormally high resolution for a PSP game. One example here, is an underwater scene. PSP Version, Screenshot @ 480x272 (native PSP resolution) Check out various details like the door, the chest, that small bit of seaweed, etc. Now check out this screenshot Not-so PSP version, Screenshot @ 1920x1088 (essentially above PS3 resolution) Now, this screenshot is at a whopping 1920x1088, which is something the PSP couldn't do even at a stupidly low 0.001 FPS - You would run into frame rate limitations. Look at the jaggies, far more then on the kratos model, even when he is upscaled. This screenshot surely can't be just shopped to be 1080p resolution, they're taken at different angles. My theory? It's being ported to the PS2, PSN or both. Remember, if it's running on the God of War 2 engine, it'll run on those first gen PS3s just fine (hell, it'll even run on the newest 60GB PS3s), so upscaling can probably be done on that. It's not the first time this has happened, either - Don't forget about Tekken: Dark Ressurection being ported to the Playstation Network. Having yet another God of War on the PS2 will certainly help its sales this year, and keep it going for another year (which means sony gets more money from a profitable console). Having God of War debut on the Playstation 3 via it's network download service sets the tone for every developer out there, it shows that Sony is dead serious about games on the PSN by putting a console-quality major franchise game on it. It makes sense - so maybe they're actually going to do it? If so, which one will you get it for?
Corris Veteran Posted February 15, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 15, 2008 Interesting to say the least. They could of course just taken the screen shots on maybe a development kit to put on the site so they could be hi-res? And either my eyes have gone weird, or on the larger image when you zoom in, its got lines going through it, looks like a bunch of screens have been stuck together. The Teej
I suppose they could have, but isn't that almost false advertising?

I see that too, and have highlighted where they are below for those that might not be able to see it straight away, However, personally I hope its true because I don't own a PSP (yet) and I would like to be able to play this!
CY:G
Not really, it could have been made for Marketing purposes e.g. Making huge posters, maybe it will be the background of a website/magazine, etc
Corris Veteran Posted February 15, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 15, 2008 I suppose they could have, but isn't that almost false advertising? I'm not sure how the whole false advertising works really, what company's are allowed to use on sites for their games that isn't in the actual game and such like. It could very well of been made for use in a wallpaper or something. But on a point you mentioned in your first post, I would love for a God of War game to come to PSN, while I have a PS2, I don't use it since getting the PS3, and I never got GoW1 or 2, so either this comes to PSN or one of the first two does, or BC comes back and I can sue that as an excuse to buy the first two then. :D Also nice to see people on Neowin investigating things and not having to go off to some random rumour site. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 15, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted February 15, 2008 (edited) I suppose they could have, but isn't that almost false advertising? Well if you've got a large monitor and run on a high resolution, it's not practical to view screenshots in 480x272 :p These are digitally manipulated somehow for viewing purposes. I'm a firm believer of the gaming coming to PS2, but I do not think there will be any media/confirmation from the PS2 version until the PSP version has been out for a while.
