Barney T. Administrators Posted February 16, 2008 Administrators Share Posted February 16, 2008 I wanted to have another Shift Linux Staff meeting by IRC on the 23rd of February at 12 noon. It really helps to unify all of the staff when we can meet as a group and discuss where we are and what progress has been made. One thing I want to make sure is that everyone is clear on their part in the development of our next version.... as well as how to use our SVN to give everyone a chance to develop our various versions. If you have specific topic requests or ideas for this meeting, please post them here. We will be discussing these extremely important areas developed by Crimson: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...#entry589168585 Thanks! 4CxbqFxVnstmA Veteran Posted February 16, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 16, 2008 Guess you meant February there, Barney! :) Regular meetings are good to keep people from procrastination...... Yea, I wanted to contribute to publicity/promotions as well. Guess we can sort that out at some point. See you next Saturday at 11am (my time here in Central time, America) Welcome, Cosmin! I think Barney means 12noon Eastern Standard Time in America. Barney T. Administrators Posted February 22, 2008 Author Administrators Share Posted February 22, 2008 Just a reminder that we'll start promptly at noon tomorrow - 12 noon EST (Saturday). Hope to see everyone there! Items to discuss: 1. Shift graphics (Wallpaper, Screensavers, GTK themes, XFCE/Gnome/KDE4 themes, etc.) 2. Windows Applications. Examples are a dedicated ISO burner, and possibly a hardware-checker app. 3. Inter-version cooperation - All 3 versions share common art, screensavers, and so on. 4. A repository. With that, someone to "manage" the repository. 5. New ideas for applications. How to make them work would be nice too 6. Research, Research, Research. With all of these ideas in mind, how do we make them work? 7. More meetings and more community interaction. 8. A "real" timetable that ensures our releases flow smoothly. 9. Mega-easy installing application. 10. And, off in the Linux cloud - No Terminal "required". (courtesy CrimsonRedMk)
markwolfe Veteran Posted February 23, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2008 I have a kid to drop off at noon, so I am not going to be able to sit in on this one. But, from the flux end, I just need to try to match up with the KDE, Gnome, and especially the XFCE theme(s) provided. At least the default "Shift" theme, so the user is presented something that looks as close to the same across all versions. Also, things like keyboard shortcuts and menu layouts will have to be created in flux to match XFCE as close as possible (which should mirror Gnome and KDE for the most part). On my box, I match up the Windows keys (Win+L to lock/screensaver, Win+R to call up a run window, etc.). I take it that Shift will instead match Gnome (and I don't know the default keymappings we will be using - perhaps user-selectable when they use Shift?). An IRC log for me to look for flux-related items would be good, and I will try jumping in and helping out. (Y)

I think the best people to answer your questions here are Simon360 and CrimsonRedMk. As far as I know (and have used Shift Linux) the keyboard has the standard mapping as with all other *buntu distros. Yeah, we definitely would like Flux to exhibit the same themes / traits as the other versions, as much as possible, anyway. I will get with you if you have further questions after I post the log (or at any time, my friend). Barney
