Another PS3 region question

Recommended Posts

Ok guys. I was going to play Pro Street and it said a new patch 1.20 was available to download. So i am downloading this 788 mb update right now.. However i noticed that the patch was released in North America a lot earlier than Europe..

My game is region 2. If i sign up an account registered from USA, and had installed this update from USA, would it work or have compatibility issues?

I mean overall. To get the updates faster for Region 2 games, can i sign up a North American account and download the patch earlier?

i believe COD4 patch was released in USA earlier than europe as well.. Would the same go for COD4 too?

Nope. That doesn't seem to work. It definitely did not for Call of Duty 4 because we had to wait ages for it.

Not sure what methods they use...it's probably a combination...but you'll only get the patch to match your disc.

I suppose all games are region coded, but they're not region locked (for PS3 games at least).

Hmmm i see than.. So for my region 2 Pro Street Racer i can only download patches from Europe such as UK.

but my Unreal Tournament is region 1 so in order to upload a patch (if there is any) than i have to have an American account or otherwiese i can not upgrade it from Europe.

pain in the butt.

Yup sorry, I've been getting confused with region locking and region coding. As said before I would assume that you can't update a say a European game with a NA patch because the patch won't have Euro localization in it.

It may work though, but with CoD the patch was released way before in the US than in Europe, and the American disc wouldn't let you play unless you downloaded the american patch.

Just send some hate mail to SCEE!

yeahh thats what i see right now... So if someone ever buys a region 1 game living at a region 2 country than it is necessary to have a North American account as well... irritating. Why did not they make it global at the first place?

SCNA seems to be doing a much better job than SCEE.. .i wonder if this is because SCEE is lazy or there are many different nations and spoken languages in Europe and thats why things are way way slower than North America.

pain in the butt.

It is a pain yeah, but it's really quite easy - just find a genuine US address online (e.g. a hotel), and use that for all the details. You won't be able to purchase anything from the US Store without a US credit card, but you will be able to get plenty of demos and other content before they hit the EU Store :)

So really...you should be setting up a US account regardless of the patch issue lol

yeahh well darn it.. While at it i will have 3 accounts.. actually 4.

1-) I am Turkish and living in Turkey. I will have an account from Turkey, but there is no PS store available in Turkey.

2-) UK account to download region 2 patches

3-) US account to download demos earlier than Europe and download patch for COD4

4-) Asian account from Japan to install a future Devil May Cry 4 patch...

pain in the butt BIG TIME.. than i will be confused with the acounts.

but before all this i will change my harddisk to a 200 gb one :)

at least this keeps me motivated for the upcoming chaos of accounts.

Even though I am in the US I still have Japan and UK account as well. The other regions get stuff before the US sometimes. From what I hear though it takes forever for a lot of stuff to get to the UK store :/
