AaronMT
Hi, I am looking towards getting a PS3 in the summer but a friend of mine keeps telling me information (perhaps false information) that I dont know is true or false. The stuff he is informing me about, mainly about the games. He keeps telling me that the PS3 is the system that gets all the ports from the XBOX360 with degredation. He keeps telling me that there are simply not many games out still, a year after release Case-in-point he wants me to get an xbox360. Now the reason I am thinking about getting the PS3 is because I want free online play, I want a blu ray player and the system is wifi enabled out of the box. My question to you guys, I remember reading a long time ago that developers found it difficult to write PS3 software due to its complex development and the result would be a lack of games. Are there more and more games coming out of high quality for the system, are they not ports of the 360's? What are some more reasons to get a PS3 over a 360? Phemo
I own all 3 of the current consoles and I personally think the 360 is the best system for gaming. However, it sounds like you want a PS3 so just go get one. The 360 does have better games to offer right now, but the PS3 will have its share of quality titles and it's still got a great selection of games now - even if a lot are 360 ports. There are a ton of great PS3 games due out this year, so if you want a PS3, buy it and enjoy it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Cormier6083
The games are not as abundant as the 360, but the PS3 should be getting a heck load of improvements over the course of 2008. Also, it might possibly be the best Blu-Ray player on the market. I say go for it. You probably won't be disappointed.
Neo003
First PS3 is really a good console, right now there might not be any good game (except few) but the future looks (again LOOK'S) bright. But my recommendation is to get the console. As everyone said above me, you've the final say.
Corris Veteran Posted February 23, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2008 Hi, I am looking towards getting a PS3 in the summer but a friend of mine keeps telling me information (perhaps false information) that I dont know is true or false. Never take a friends advice on buying anything! A lesson learned in life, always look it up after yourself, thank havens you have us, lol. [*]He keeps telling me that the PS3 is the system that gets all the ports from the XBOX360 with degredation. It has happened, games were made for the Xbox360 and then ported over, usually resulting in problems like frame rate issues. That is happening less and less now, companies are getting better at using the PS3. Some games are being developed on the PS3 first, Burnout Paradise was one and then ported to the Xbox360, which ends up with both games being higher than being ported the other way round. Games like CoD4 were developed on Xbox360 and PS3 at the same time, so no bad porting, and both turned out great. Devil May Cry was ported from PC to Ps3 and Xbox360, those crazy capcommers! :p [*]He keeps telling me that there are simply not many games out still, a year after release There are definatly games out there already, multiplatform and not. And even more coming out this year, but ti all depends what your into. My question to you guys, I remember reading a long time ago that developers found it difficult to write PS3 software due to its complex development and the result would be a lack of games. Are there more and more games coming out of high quality for the system, are they not ports of the 360's? What are some more reasons to get a PS3 over a 360? It is more difficult than the Xbox360 to program for, expected when devloeprs are programming for the conventional architecture vs new architecture. But they are getting a handle on it, and Sony has released new tools even that makes it better, and Insomniac a exclusive 3rd party has just started a progrm to help develoeprs aswell. Your friend would want you to geta Xbox360 becasue he has it, thats what it boils down to, do you want to play exclusive and multiplatform 360 games with your friend, or do you want to play exclusive PS3 games? and you did mention you wanted a Blu-Ray player too. What games do you, and are you interested in playing? to help us help you. :D
PiracyX
You really should be looking it up yourself and not asking your friend. Asking your friend is what they would buy with your money, but its YOU that wants it.

DrunkenMaster
I'm looking into getting a PS3, for casual gaming but more for entertainment centre, rent Blu-Ray movies and as a cheaper gaming computer ... my computer is my workstation and I'd like to keep it that way. I think there's a Keyboard/Mouse control option. Is this compatible with most games? I'd play a few FPS games like Portal and HL2 on it. A game like MGS 4 I don't see being played without the controller. How is the pic / sound quality on the Blu-Ray? All I'm looking for is pretty good / good enough. How about DVD movies? Will it play MP3 CD's and DVDs? I've a ton of PS2 games - something like 20 of them. I think trading that + PS2 should almost net me most of the cost of the PS3 on trade-in. Games can if the developers let them, Unreal Tournament 3 les you use mouse and keyboard, and can let you choose if you want to play with those using M+K or not too. How is the pic / sound quality on the Blu-Ray? All I'm looking for is pretty good / good enough. How about DVD movies? Picture/Sound quality is Excellent, at least I would assume they are. The Blu-ray drive used in the PS3 is the same as the much much more expensive players, so there is no difference. and I'm guessing the sound quality is the usual that you get on these spangly Hi-def disks, I suppose it would all depend what type of sound system you have to hook up to it. Will it play MP3 CD's and DVDs? It can play DVD's yes, and up scale them too. As for MP3 CD's, I'm pretty sure it plays them.
Tech Star
* He keeps telling me that the PS3 is the system that gets all the ports from the XBOX360 with degredation. No that is not true, Infinity ward (makers of CoD4) made CoD4 on the PS3 and posted it onto the X360, and read this topic: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...#entry589226658. * He keeps telling me that there are simply not many games out still, a year after release It depends on what kinds of games you like, but this year we will be having Little Big Plant, Killzone 2, Resistance Fall Of Man 2, GTA4, etc.

Let me chuck some advice your way, Hi, I am looking towards getting a PS3 in the summer but a friend of mine keeps telling me information (perhaps false information) that I dont know is true or false. Taking advice is great, but criticism and even praise can be inflated/not totally true. Heed what your friends say, but always do your own research - Buying on impulses cause someone else tells you to, can lead to you not getting something you want. But hey, your asking us, so you know to research and make your own mind up. [*]He keeps telling me that the PS3 is the system that gets all the ports from the XBOX360 with degredation. Which is true for some games, and fairly heavily true in the PS3s first months on the scene. A bit of it has to be expected with one system being out longer, and developers having development kits for the system longer - However some developers really did put out some awful ports that would've benefited from longer delays... thing is some of them were delayed and still came out rubbish. I don't think anyone is going to tell you nowadays that both systems aren't capable of multiplatform titles with minor differences, COD4 and Burnout are massive examples of this - Putting aside obvious titles like FIFA08, and some other more common franchises that run similarly. I wouldn't worry about this point at all anymore. [*]He keeps telling me that there are simply not many games out still, a year after release Quite a common argument, especially on these boards - A lot of people throw this statement around like an STD. The PS3 doesn't have as many critically acclaimed games as the 360, but that doesn't mean it has "no games". What games you're interested in is always subjective to your tastes. In the early days the PS3 really did have a low collection of games, aside from a low collection of well reviewed games - Now though things have beefed up a bit, and we have some sports games, adventure games, FPS games and the likes. And even now some highly reviewed games, or in our terms "must have purchases". Want more advice on games to get just ask and i'll chuck the usual recommendations your way. Best thing you can do is investigate what is out now, but importantly what is COMING out. This year is packed to be a very good year for the PS3 in terms of us seeing the exclusive franchises that the PS2 ran on. Case-in-point he wants me to get an xbox360.Now the reason I am thinking about getting the PS3 is because I want free online play, I want a blu ray player and the system is wifi enabled out of the box. My question to you guys, I remember reading a long time ago that developers found it difficult to write PS3 software due to its complex development and the result would be a lack of games. Are there more and more games coming out of high quality for the system, are they not ports of the 360's? What are some more reasons to get a PS3 over a 360? Him wanting you to get a 360 is understandable, as if you both have one you can interact with each other and play games online with each other. With online play, you'll kick off a huge debate/argument over Live and PSN if you delve further into the subject. Mainly because while PSN is free on the feature side of things it is lacking compared to Live. Do not take this as meaning the online servers aren't up to par, as that is not the case - Actually playing online in regards to lag and servers, there is no difference between consoles. What is missing is things like the game invites/messaging/ect. The only saving grace for the PS3 is these will come, it's not as if Sony have said our service is free due to us deciding not to include these features - They will all be there this year, and PSN will still be free when they are. As for the Blu Ray side of things, thats 1 clear 1up the PS3 has over the 360. No arguments there, unless you want to start speculating a 360 Blu Ray addon - But right now, things are nowhere near concrete on that situation. Wifi can be accessed with both systems, it just costs you a hefty premium on the 360. So not really reasons from me to GET a PS3 - Just really some advice on the matters you brought up. The decision is up to you, if you want my PERSONAL recommendation, its to get both systems. I couldn't have it any other way. Obviously that costs money, but if you like both, get both - Just get one now, and get the other later. Then you're laughing and getting the best of both worlds and let me tell you, for the flak the PS3 is getting it's going to be packing some good punches soon which im happy about. I want both my consoles to succeed, not one or the other like many people on this forum.
Windam
I own a 360 and a Wii but the console I most desired without anyone's opinion would be the PS3 The PS3 will have loads and loads of great games in the coming years ;) However I will give the PS3 some time before I buy one mainly because I have enough games at the moment. Would you usually find more users and/or severs on PSN than Live? As for users, more on Live I'd say. With a game like COD4 you're probably talking "15,000" instead of "10,000"* - Numbers that are that high, it really doesn't matter, you'll be on a server with people in no time on both platforms. UT3 is just out in Europe, so UT3 servers have previously been American only, will be more now. *Not exact figures obviously, just to let you understand what im getting at. It's taking a while, either the update is huge or the wireless signal is poor. The issue right now with the PS3 firmware is it doesn't "patch" previous versions, it downloads the whole thing every time. So like 2.00 could be 180mb, and instead of 2.10 being 10-20mb to patch, it's 200mb. Not that big an issue though, firmware updates have slowed down from the 1 a month we used to get. Wireless on the PS3 is also a bit of a hit and miss. My signal goes from 60-75%. Perfect online play, but the store is sometimes slow - I guess thats not only to do with wireless, but peak downloading times as well. But grats on purchase, you buy for Blu Ray? Tell us what you like/dislike after it's all setup, you've played a game or two and you've tried some DIVX/AVI movies. Guyro
in my opinion its not about the console but about the games the console has out those that will be coming out for it, thats how i chose to get a 360, at the last minute after i heard about gears of war, otherwise i probably would have gotten a ps3 at the time edit: however sony's bad PR for the ps3 did help to put me off but that seems to have cleared up now (slightly)

Can't even detect my ethernet connection either, great start! For the time being, mainly Blu-ray. There are only a handful of available titles which interest me now, but there's a lot of exclusive games due in 2008 (namely MGS4) that I'd like to get my hands on, and Home has me kinda interested.
