PL_ Veteran Posted February 23, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2008 http://kotaku.com/360002/sorry-uk-no-gran-...mo-5-until-2009 Sorry UK: No Gran Turismo 5 Until 2009Videogamer.com is reporting that an email sent out by retailer GAME indicates that Gran Turismo 5 won't be arriving on UK shelves until 2009. So it looks like all of you hoping to see some GT racing action on your PS3s this year will be sorely out of luck. "The legendary "Real Driving Simulator" Gran Turismo 5 is heading to PlayStation 3 in 2009, utilising the uber-console's raw horsepower to generate an unrivalled level of realism." The email goes on to promote the release of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on March 28th. The "preview" game will feature forty cars, five tracks and will be budget priced at ?19.99. Ack, that sucks. Guess there's the Prologue before then though;))
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 23, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted February 23, 2008 Retail chains get dates wrong fairly often. I wouldn't believe them. HOWEVER, I never thought GT5 would hit in 2008, unless it sneaked in on a Q4 release. Still best to wait to hear from PD.
Bhav
Yeah I think the way they've spread the Prologue release between the regions over so many months is indication enough that they wanted to keep us quiet until 2009.

SnowRanger13
I don't think NA will see it till 2009 also. Late 2008 seems like a possibility for JP. Having just bought a G25 racing wheel I can't wait for GT5. I've been spending a lot of time with racing games lately and I was going to get the 360 steering wheel (for PRG4, and FM2) but the G25 racing wheel was on sale and it's such a good wheel I splurged for it. GT3 and GT4 got pulled out for the wheel.
MightyJordan
Yeah, usually retailers are wrong, but I think they've hit the nail on the head here. Remember Gran Turismo 4, everyone? The Prologue was released, then GT4 itself exactly 12 months later. I'm expecting the same thing for GT5. I just want GT5 Prologue to get here quicker! At least we get it 3 weeks before the Americans. :D Then again, it might be this year, as GT5 Prologue was released in December 2007 in Japan. Xerxes
Nuts, that mean a 2010 release for Australia? Still, GT5P releases late next month here in Oz (although some stores are saying April 17..), hopefully that will keep me occupied till the final release, whenever it ends up being :)

Chicane-UK Veteran Posted February 25, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 25, 2008 Hopefully there will be some price drops, etc before then - as I always buy whatever Playstation is current when Gran Turismo lands! :)
red.
I wasn't really expecting this to come out this year anyway so i'm not too upset. Although i probably wasn't going to get the game on release anyway.

HawkMan
PGR5 and Forza 3 will be out before this game, and since PGR got the fun and Forza got the realism there's allready very little reason to hold out for GT5.
tazzeh
Hopefully there will be some price drops, etc before then - as I always buy whatever Playstation is current when Gran Turismo lands! :) I agree too - I got the PS2 with GT3 when it came out as a bundle. Still have the original GT, GT2, GT Tokyo to Geneva, GT3 and now GT4! Hopefully Sony WILL do the usual Gran Turismo + PS(insert current model) package along with price cuts from now til then. If so, i'll be a sure buyer!
Coldgunner
was there any kind of rebate or bonuses for people who bought gt4:prologue and gt4?
Chicane-UK Veteran Posted February 25, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 25, 2008 Nope. I don't see why there would be. Sony aren't tricking people into buying a rubbish version of Gran Turismo, and then springing a better version on them. Everyone knows that Prologue is a preview of a game that will come out later on down the line - if you don't want to feel like you're being ripped off, just wait till the full game comes out! No, I don't feel like I'm being ripped off. Its a great preview worth every part of the ?20 asking fee, there are full games that have less (\looks at motorstorm). looking forward to this, pretty much perfected the suzuka lap now in the demo and I anxiously await some more tracks to play on. Agreed, I have seen no reasone to buy a PS3 thus far since release. The one and only game I liked fro it was Uncharted but then it was hardly groundbreaking now was it. The one and only game I liked fro it was Uncharted but then it was hardly groundbreaking now was it. I am in the same poisition. I wanted to get a PS3 but the lack of games has made me think otherwise. I don't just want it to play Blu-ray movies, i want it for games and that's something the PS3 doesnt even have this year. So we know GT5 will not be out this year in UK, and its almost certain that the next Final Fantasy will miss this year aswell, leaving MGS4, which doesn't have an announced UK date yet so that could be pushed all the way back until the end of the year. I fail to see how people have predicted it will be Sony's year because games are just not there, most are non-exclusive to the platform so they will be on Xbox360 aswell. Unless they were talking about people just buying the PS3 just for the Blu-ray player which has been the case for along time now since it came out. I'd say 2009 would be a better bet for it to be Sony's year since the games that matter for the system will be all out by then.

One point that you've missed that the PS3 has over the 360 in terms of games is that they are all region free. It appears the US gets a lot of the titles several months (in some cases) earlier, and we can just import them for the same price as they'd be locally. You are right that is true, i did miss that one out. This has always been the case on the playstation platform where we have to wait serveral months for the same game to hit UK and usually pay more for it. This will be something i will consider when i do get one, but why should be have to import the games, when they should be sitting on UK shelves the same time has US since there will be no difference to the game. I think Sony actually love shafting the UK for the fun of it.
