Amidst swirling tug-of-war rumors of will-they-or-won?t-they regarding a fourth installment in the BOURNE franchise, iF Magazine caught up with producer Doug Liman to do some investigative work of our own.

Liman, who produced the trilogy as well as directed THE BOURNE IDENTITY, was at the NBC TCAs to promote his upcoming KNIGHT RIDER series.

Regarding BOURNE, Liman confirms definitively that, ?There?s another script in the works.?

It appears that star Matt Damon could definitely be heading up the cast again. When asked how hard it would be to get Damon to be a part of the project, Liman says, ?There?s so much money in it, that I don?t think that hard.?

However, could Liman see the series going on without Damon, a la the Bond franchise?

?Yeah,? he says. ?Jason Bourne is a movie star. I think Matt Damon is not as big a movie star as Jason Bourne is. Daniel Craig is a movie star, but James Bond is more of a movie star.?

The films are in alphabetical-chronological order so far, this movie had better be called The Bourne V*/W*/X*/Y*/Z*

The Bourne Weekend. An upbeat comedy starring Matt Damon as the forgetful secret agent who has lost his keys, and goes on an action packed journey across Europe to get them back.

They are in his pocket

I hope to GOD they only use Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. If they change that i'll kill them all!

Damon is Bourne.

I really don't think Greengrass would change the lead and if they did then he wouldn't be attached.

I thought the 3rd was quite boring.

The 3rd I felt was the weakest but at times it was awesome but at other times it was slow and tedious.

It's Official - Jason Bourne Back in Action in Bourne 4

Trilogies are no longer the big thing in Hollywood. Universal is moving forward with a fourth Jason Bourne movie, tentatively titled Bourne 4. Although this news was first confirmed back in June, Variety announces today that Universal has hired a writer and is giving full support to the production in hopes of having it ready by 2010. Interestingly, Universal really did intend to end the series with The Bourne Ultimatum (as we saw with the ending of the film), but after it made $227 million at the box office, they decided to go ahead and make another. Ultimatum writer George Nolfi has been hired to pen the sequel.

As we outlined in the previous article, the fourth book in the Bourne series was written instead by Eric Van Lustbader, not Robert Ludlum, and thus the studio has decided to go down their own path choosing a story this time. Producer Frank Marshall said they'll probably take Bourne "down south" to South America in the fourth film, but story details aren't fully finalized. Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass, who directed both Supremacy and Ultimatum, will return again for Bourne 4. Considering The Bourne Ultimatum is still one of my favorite movies from last year, I'm very glad to hear that they're continuing on. Especially because it's the closest thing to becoming a new James Bond style franchise that could go on endlessly.

I thought it was funny though reading back on some words of Matt Damon saying he'd never do a fourth. I wonder if this will be The Bourne Redundancy he was talking about. :p

Let's just hope they don't absolutely kill it.

It will be interesting that it will completely be a new story rather then one from the books!

Apparently you never read the first 3 Ludlum books. :p

The movie lost most all of its cred with the actual story line from the books lonnnng ago.

Books were insanely good.

Movie was also good, but just can never ever be compared to the books.

I mean they killed Marie off WAY to early. She was a *Huge* part of Bourne's recovery in the series.

The third was by far the worst movie as well.

I was just wondering, has anyone actually read the books? They're much better than all of the movie in my opinion. Much....different.

I'd say 95% of movies based on books are nothing like the book. Sure you have some like LOTR here and there, but usually they are very different.

LOTR also differs in a lot of places. :p

They always screw up the good films by milking it for more and more. And I bought the trilogy set and was feeling pretty pleased about it :(

I luckily bought the dvd's separately but I wanted to get the trilogy set :(
