null_
Yup, Penryn across the board, 2.4 GHz CPU and 256MB VRAM on the base model, and multi-touch on the MacBook Pro. It's a modest update, not something I'd say it's trade-in worthy of.

.Kompressor
It's a little more than a Modest update. Because.... it's the first set of 45nm processors. :D I'd like to see the benchmarks, battery life, and temperature measurements on these babies. :D I'm waiting for the Nehalem to hit before I get a macbook pro. ;)

I'm still waiting until they refresh it with a new design, and that is only going to happen in May when Montevina comes out. Edit: I've only just noticed that it's now 512MB GDDR3, but I'll wait until the next Nvidia/ATi card, as I'm in no rush  ! Scirwode

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted February 26, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 26, 2008 Still I just got my macbook pro last week, maybe I should`ve waited. :( It is an unwritten law of the universe that the first few macs you purchase, within a month, two months at the very longest, a newer, better model will indeed be released. I know you are kicking yourself right now, I remember the initial discussion about what model you should get and more importantly when you should get it. There is a 14 Day Return Period as mentioned. If barely used, back up, re-format, and give it a chance. I am sure by now though you are already well on your way to having things set up how you want them, so I say just live with it. While it is a nice update, it is not going to make a huge difference in your apps. Literally seconds, if that, would be saved from the overall processing speed, so while it sounds way better on paper, the real world difference, although it is there, will be very minimal. null_
Still I just got my macbook pro last week, maybe I should`ve waited. :( Sanctified, I wouldn't get too worked up over it. You've probably gotten things set up just how you like them, and the improvements in this revision really don't warrant a trade-in in my opinion. You won't see that much of a performance increase anyway, in reality the only thing you'd really be gaining is multi-touch and a larger hard drive/more video memory (and, depending on your configuration, the hard drive could already match what is now offered as standard). Enjoy your MacBook Pro and wait at least few revisions before jumping the gun.
Unto Darkness
I would definitely go for the upgrade. Man, 8600GT 512MB.....Well if that does not matter to you than I say you should chill out Sanctified.

Man, 8600GT 512MB.....Well if that does not matter to you than I say you should chill out Sanctified. Video memory doesn't mean a huge difference in performance. The only time you'd ever need it is if you're planning on playing any overly heavy games or if you're doing something that is seriously graphics intensive that is going to take advantage of it. null_
Those would indeed be new markings. Has anyone noticed that the number pad function key markings were removed from the M, L, K, J, P, O, I, and U keys? Also, command is written on the Apple key, and the second Enter button has been removed.
KeR
Sanctified, I am sure if you took it in, they would replace it for you. I have done this before, Apple is very willing to do stuff like that.
