DUALSHOCK 3

The final piece of big news coming out of DPS is another much-requested release date: SCEA will introduce the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for the first time in North America in April 2008 for $54.95 (MSRP). Compatible with more than 100 PS3 games, DUALSHOCK 3 has both rumble and motion-sending SIXAXIS technologies. So now you’ll be able to play Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, and, yes, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots with rumble turned ON.

$54? Doesn't the whole console cost like $400? How can a tiny controller be worth that much?

It isn't, big markup on 1st party accessories.

Ask MS why they charge ?60 or $99 for their Wifi adapter.

Apples to oranges. You don't need wireless to enjoy games.

The main thing I hate about the PS3 is no Rumble. To me, rumble adds immersion. Wireless Internet does not.

...

I knew someone would try and do a rumble vs wireless comparison eventually.

Did you not see the point in my comment, it's discussing mark ups, not actual hardware.

And for the record, wireless is a deal breaker for some people, no wireless = no online gaming.

Rumble? Not a deal breaker, EVERYONE can play EVERY PS3 game with a sixaxis.

^ Except for the fact that your gaming experience is severely hampered in some games, such as Baseball sport simulators for example, and otherwise negatively affected in most others to a considerable degree.

Yeap, definitely good news. It should have been in there from day one, but we take what we can get, eh? :)

You were the one that brought the comparison, even if your comparison was about marking up prices for first party accessories.

Some people can't play online regardless if they have wired or wireless gaming, so it isn't a deal breaker to everybody, just like rumble isn't a deal breaker to everyone.

However to me, rumble adds immersion, where wireless is just a feature. I do use the wireless on my PS3 but if I wanted to, I could hook up a RJ-45 connection as well. I would rather pay a premium for a feature I don't necessarily need than pay a premium for a controller. I expected Sony to get rid of the Six-Axis altogether as who needs it when there is the DS3. Of course Sony probably had to pay for rumble and instead of giving it to us for free, they are passing down their fees unto the customers.

$55 is a bit steep, but I was expecting $50 - 60 anyway so no shock there. I will be getting one for sure, I really miss the rumble. Not to mention this controller should have some weight to it, the sixaxis is too light IMO. When my 360 red ringed the other day I rented CoD4 for PS3 because I'm addicted to it and the lack of rumble was throwing off my game a bit. It really does add a ton of immersion to the game.
