Badie05
It seems that a local repairman couldn't repair my PSP. My memory stick slot was fried and he told me I needed to replace the PSP mobo. I need help finding someone to repair my PSP in Canada at a decent price. I just don't wanna pay for a new one :( The problem must've been caused by a knockoff memory stick or something. Olemus
If its fried, the guy who already checked it out is likely right, you'll probably need a whole new mobo in which case it will proabbly be cheaper to buy a 2nd hand psp.
Badie05
*groan* this sucks. Another 300 down the drain.
+Mystic MVC Posted March 1, 2008 MVC Share Posted March 1, 2008 *groan* this sucks. Another 300 down the drain. Well, I know this isn't what you want to here, but I hope you learned a lesson. If it was indeed a fake memory card (let me guess Ebay), that is my #1 example when telling others what not to buy off Ebay. It has to be one of the highest counterfeited items on there that can do serious damage. If you are buying a brand new PSP, why not wait until that God War PSP Pack is available? Linkin Park
http://store.richspsxparts.com/pspmecaslnec.html Assuming it's not a slim, that's the part you need :)
Badie05
It's a phat. Thanks Linkin Park I will look into. And I never bought it form ebay. I got it from a friend (which I now despise) It was a Knock-Off Lexar 1GB Memory Stick but it supported MagicGate?

I'm happy to help spread a tip that can help your PSP not fail with a counterfeit memory card.
Coldgunner
Always get memory sticks from a trusted retailer, I've always done that and never had issues. note: always check via memory stick>triangle>information and see if the stick supports magicgate, if not its fake, least I think thats the simplest test. Badie05
Nope. Now it's possible for Knockoffs to feature MagicGate. Mine did :/
gusto5
Nope. Now it's possible for Knockoffs to feature MagicGate. Mine did :/ That's very odd. typically cards that are detected as magic-gate are usually authentic cards. Does the card still work, lets say on your computer? Ive never heard of a memory stick causing a reader to fry, to be honest =\
