Why is this conversation even going on?

Check the date on the article.

amen to that, however what on earth is the point in 2xHDMI, how many people do you know with 2 hdtv's next to each other.

While it be hard for any game system to output 1080p twice, a lot of people want dual HDMI so you can send one to the audio receiver and one to your TV. Apparently at 1080p there is some bandwidth issue with some audio choices, having 2 HDMI cables apparently fixes that.

that answered my question, but I thought HDMI was designed to take both very well, as HDMI 1.3a/b supports up to 1600p http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#HDMI_1.3b_category_II

It is designed for that yes but apparently there is interference when running at 1080p that the Audiophile notice a degrade in sound quality. I can't explain it any better then that. My TV doesn't support 1080p so I don't have that problem and even if it did I probably wouldn't notice it, it's all the high end Audiophiles that do.

Just like how the original Playstation with the White and Red coming right out the back (this means no AV cable, there is a White and Red connector right on the back of the PS1) sells for $500 on eBay because it is considered the best CD player for White and Red connectors.

A lot of people will pay crazy things for great audio quality and Dual HDMI is something they want.

HDMI not only carries video but sound you know!! They could make one carry sound only

There are plenty of high end Amplifiers that have HDMI in, granted optical does the job but why not?!

Then you can turn split out the video and sound over two very high bandwidth cables, however the sound difference will be negligible

Who knows, someone might want to do it :)

2xHDMI ports is not a "useless" idea. You can have one HDMI cable from your PS3 > Audio Setup, and one HDMI cable from your PS3 > TV set, but I don't think you'll notice a real difference by doing that... lol

  • 2 weeks later...

??? Why wouldn't you just run the the hdmi to the receiver for the audio then output the video to the tv

Or

Just run the hdmi from the playstation to the tv for the video and an optical cable to the receiver for the audio

optical cables are cheaper than hdmi

am I the only one to notice that this article is dated "October 6, 2007 @ 1:24 am" ?

I mean yeah... Sony is most likly gonna come out with a new model (since they are killing hte 80gb), but I really do not think it will be such overkill...

2 HDMI output ports... unecesary...

the only credible thing is the bigger HDD and extra USB ports (I'm using a USB hub with mine LOL)

This is what I love about this article, thats from October 2007,

"At the moment the unit is only confirmed for release in Japan. A date has not been fully specified but is expected after November?

We'll 4 months later and no word, so I guess it was another rumour, EH? I guess so like Canada being the big north pole. HO HO HO!

I need sleep!:laugh:h:

There is NO-WAY this is true.

Game developers aren't going to make 2 versions of each PS3 game they make.

The specs of the current system (apart from the size of the chips and HDD capacity) would have to remain the same in order for PS3 games to work correctly.

You cant simply change the Cell chip and add more RAM and expect the games to work better or even work at all.

Its like whacking a Intel Quad-Core chip to an original Xbox and expecting it to work faster with games.

That "Dual Cell" bit made the programmer inside of me cringe

Why is there a programmer inside you? Did you eat him? Or... ewwww!

I secretly ate Phil Harrison. Him "leaving Sony" is just a ploy, so nobody wonders why he doesn't turn up at the office in the morning
