SCE UK boss Ray Maguire thanks trade partners after milestone ? and promises greater success in ?08

PlayStation 3 has officially sold one million units at UK retail, hitting the milestone faster than PSOne or PS2.

Anbd now Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Ray Maguire is more confident than ever that the console can step up its game further in the next-gen race this year.

?Achieving one million PS3 sales faster than both PSOne and PlayStation 2 is even more gratifying considering PS3 is a premium product introduced at a premium price,? he toldOur momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4te 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios. I?d personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.?

Ignoring all but the bit in bold.

I think they're probably going to wait until they release Home till they release in-game XMB.

Just my thoughts...

/\ agreed

I think the community needs to stop pressuring for quicker releases, then we can get better features and bigger updates. I think home will turn up about the same time as the likes of mgs4, that will help the sales drive.

What happened with the firmware versions inbetween? 2.1-2.4? :p

they'll still come, they're talking about further down the PS3 firmware roadmap.

can't you chat in game already??

it is a little ropey, but i can do it on my jabra...

He said communication, not chat, which means its probably more than just voice, so messages as well.

Basically access to an In-game XMB Messaging is probably what he is getting at, and what we all want.

Home is in my opinion one of the most over-hyped "games" to be said in the same sentence as the word Playstation. I said that about Lair, and I was right, only time will tell if I'm right about Home. :p

It's not a game.

It's seriouz bizness.

No, but really, Home is more of Sony's attempt at taking on XBL, and taking it to a different level. Will it work? Dunno, ask the people in beta testing.

I can tell you now that HOME isn't used much by the beta's including myself. Last time I logged on a couple weeks back, only 1 other person was there! Was chatting to him for a while then it crashed.

Thing is we have had the same limited build for a while and it does get slightly boring if nothing new is included (in my view anyway).

I may get told off for this but tbh it doesn't bother me if I do but they did recently add the "Create A Game" feature which allows you to walk around with a symbol over your head to let people know you have an Online Game set up for people to join if they want to. So whilst the room fills up you can still use HOME and chat to people that way.

EDIT- Decided to log on to the HOME server and there is an update to download, so downloading now.

Has anyone seen the Friends list in Lost Planet?

It actually brings up your proper friends list from the XMB. It looks almost like in-game XMB.
