Moving files frome ps3

Recommended Posts

I have a HP Mediasmart home server and i am trying to get 20GB of movies off my ps3 onto my server. They are both on the same network and i try and copy the folder and i get "insert storage media at the save destination" Well i have not chosen a save destination, and i'm under the impression that i can do this wirelessly. So do i have to go out and buy a male/male usb cord now or what?

EDIT: also all video files on my WHS are unsupported, but they play fine on the xbox. These videos are all current and work when i streamed them from my pc as the media server to the ps3. For some reason this is extremely aggravating.

Try Red Kawa File Server.

The PS3 wont play files over 4GB in size that are on the HDD as the HDD is formatted in FAT32 and it cant read anything over 4GB. You have to stream.

I could be wrong about this, but the only way to copy stuff off the PS3 is by plugging in an external storage device (HDD, memory stick or SDcard).

The PS3 doesn't give you an option to copy things to a media server, only from a media server. Maybe Sony will add this in the future?

And just a correction to what popisdead said... the the CAN play files over 4gb, but you have to stream / copy them over the network. The 4gb limitation that Sony talks about is due to the fact that the only file system the PS3 currently supports on external drives is FAT32... which has a max file size of 4gb. (you can read this for more info)

But back to your problem....

Another alternative would be to pull the drive from the PS3 and plug it into your WHS and copy the files that way. Prolly not something you want to constantly.. but if it's a on-time thing it should be fine.

edit:

oh, almost forgot. What program are you using to stream your videos to the PS3?

I highly recommend TVersity. Windows Media Player can also share stuff with the PS3... but I think it tries to transcode stuff locally.... so if it's a format that WMP doesn't support it will not work.

But yeah... Tversity is the way to go. Just make sure to turn off 'transcoding'
