Dirk
I got my console in December of 2006 so it is out of warranty and early this morning I put in a Blu-Ray to watch and the system doesn't recognize it. It doesn't work with games or dvds either. I am actually on hold with Sony now waiting to see how much they are going to charge me to fix the system. What makes me a little upset is that I don't even use the disc drive that much. The only game I have is Resistance and that got played a lot in December and not much after that. The primary use of the PS3 until Metal Gear comes out was to play Blu-Ray movies. I have watched maybe 15 on the system. So maybe if I had used it more I would have caught it before the warranty expired. :( Another sad thing is that I had just signed up for Netflix and had received my first two Blu-Ray movies. So now I have had one broken 360 and one broken PS3. My luck must be horrible because the failure rate is about 2 or 3% I believe. I don't know why I posted this I guess I just wanted to vent. lol. Quick little update they want to charge me a hundred and fifty dollars to exchange the system....needless to say I am not a very happy person and I more than likely won't have my PS3 for a very long time. StandingInAlley
I am assuming you have a 60GB model NTSC ? There is a problem called Spin of Death where in the PS3 stops reading any kind of discs. Do a more search on this.

Dirk
I live in the United States so only a one year. I asked if they would extend it for three months since this happened right after it went out of warranty but the supervisor said no.

popisdead uk
Ahhh...The PS3 does have problems it seems. All electrical goods have a percentage of faults - just none are anywhere near the percentage of failures on the 360.
Corris Veteran Posted March 9, 2008 Veteran Share Posted March 9, 2008 Ahhh...The PS3 does have problems it seems. You know, if you had paid any attention, no one denied they did, or have ever said they never broke down. Just that they have a failure rate within industry standards, which is fine, since anything electrical can brake down for whatever reason. Though considering the way you post I'm not surprised you pointed it out when no one even mentions it, and while you very well might not of meant it in anyway, with how you post, it comes off as nothing but a jab at something you don't like. I didn't even compare it to the XBOX360, we all know it has a far higher failure rate. Give me a break ;) You know, if you had paid any attention, no one denied they did, or have ever said they never broke down.Just that they have a failure rate within industry standards, which is fine, since anything electrical can brake down for whatever reason. Yes i don't like the fact that the drives are breaking out of warranty, i feel so much better about buying a PS3 now.... Again, i never compared it to the level of failures that the 360 had, but Sony has had a history of so many dodgy dvd drives in the PS2, its seems to be the same problem right here. I got mine is Dec. 2006 and never had a problem :) Thats good, I hope the one i get end of the month will give me no problems aswell.

It does very much. :( Does anyone know if you can buy an extended warranty through Sony? Because the one they are going to send me only has a ninety day warranty and I really don't want to have to shell out a hundred and fifty bucks again.
