PSP any fun?

Recommended Posts

Ok a mate has offered me a 1st gen PSP for free - i know its a little crazy and everyone would snap it up but i'm one for minimalism and i'm not sure if i want it.

So are there any must have games? i'm into racing, shooting, action, adventure, sport... and i have a 360...and its unlikely i'll take this PSP anywhere out.

If it is for free , take it. There are really good games for the PSP like God of War and Final Fantasy Tactics for example. You can also get burnout if you like racing. Just go to any gaming site and look at some reviews see if there is something you might like to play.

You're unsure about getting it for free?! :o

Heh.

There are many great games for the PSP - They are more akin to PS1/PS2 experiences than 5-10min pickup and play titles like the DS.

Although there are many puzzle and other sorts of games as well.

Add emulation to the pot - SNES/Genesis/N64/Gameboy/ect and the ability to play the whole PS1 catalog....

It's a no brainer really, snap it up.

Put CFW on it and enjoy :D

Completely forgot emulation! awesome! just said yes, my mate is gonna drop it off in an hour from now :D so PS1 catalog - obv illegal, but does that mean granturismo??

Playing PS1 games on your PSP isn't illegal if you actually own the game your playing. Lots of times with emulators you have to also own the system (because it's likely that an emulator is using code from the system to run the game, so you need to own that code in some form). But PSP has a PS1 emulator written by Sony, so I believe that you only need to own the game for it to be legal :D.

Yes you can play GT. I have GT1 and GT2 on mine and they work great.

You'll probably want to pick up a big memory stick for your PSP. I got a 8GB one on a great sale for $65, plenty of room for a number of PS1 games, movies, and music. 4GB ones are pretty cheap now.

When converting the disk to the PSP format they do get compressed (so a 700mb FFVII disk becomes 520mb or so). But still thats 1.5GB for FFVII (3 disk game). Lots of games are smaller then that, some I have on my PSP only take up about 100mb.

ROFLMAO

Let me get this straight... You're "one for minimalism"; but yet, you still have your old psx and games in a shoe box under your bed?

Sounds more hording than minimalizing to me...

LOL

lol! thats a good point, but i generally mean the small things that take up desk space, the psx has been under my bed for ages, dont fancy getting rid of it as i have like 50 games or so.

Three recent must have games for the PSP:

God of War: Chains of Olympus

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters

Patapon

All 3 of those are very good games. The Burnout series is pretty good on the PSP too.

I love my PSP. I modded it w/ a Pandora's Battery and now I can download any game I want, so the possibilities are endless. My DS is good too because I have the CycloDS and it lets me play games I download as well.

If you don't have a PSP w/ Homebrew/Hacked Games then it's not worth it... paying for the games is lame and if you can't waste time playing emulators then I just don't see the point. That's why PSP sells so well, but the games only move small numbers.

at an age of advanced technology and gaming PSP surely stands up as the stupidest thing ever with a 2-3 inch monitor... I can barely have fun with my ps3 at a 42 inch plasma and cant see how people can have fun with PSP...

but if it is for free get it. at least a few weeks or months later u can sell it and tell ur friend it is lost.

Forget about ethics.

I hate PSP. matter of fact right now i will open a group to protest PSP and tell people whom bought it as money wasters.

go get PS3 my man if u dont have it.

Xbox was better than PS2

but PS3 is better than XBOX 360

I'll never understand how people can hate on consoles like that.

By the way, theres no such thing as a 2-3" monitor.

I LOVE consoles. just PSP's screen is extremely small it makes me feel like playing gameboy 15 years ago. Its beyond horrible.

hell yeah it is a good comparision... while gaming should be going forward and advanced and bringing us High def support with 42 to even more inches of screens and 5.1 audio support, surely the psp stands way lover than PS3 than how gameboy was compared to amiga... Nothing can change my mind about PSP... It truly is not good . (only gaming experience not mentioning other functions)

why would people want to stuch at such a small screen while playing a game? honestly? on the road??? it just would give headaches

That's funny... because I'm a -8 in both my eyes, which is pretty close to blind, and I find the screen very vibrant and legible. I love it.

Dunno, maybe you should ask the 65-70 odd million DS owners, and the 35-40 odd million PSP owners.

The screen for a portable device has advanced with the PSP versus the gameboy - If you can't see that in the images above, dear god, I wonder how your brain works.
