PSP any fun?

Recommended Posts

I got my PSP a month ago and it's okay. It's definitely useful when I'm out and bored. As for the games, I only play a few on the PSP. The games I play are God of War and Gundam lol. Gundam I play more cause I need to get better at dodging attacks and stuff. I have some RPG games on it but I never have enough time to play them. I think I will most likely play the RPG games when I'm on a long trip or something.

i had the chance to snag an almost brand new one for $40 from a friend.

but the sucky internet browser (very hard to use imho) and memory stick (the proprietary sony which i have no adapter for) as well as games not in my genre turned me off. i'm not an anti-fanboy, i just didn't think i myself would have any fun with it.

USB adapter costs like ?3 and it charges your PSP through PC as well.

You leave the mem card in your PSP.

As for the genre, what IS your genre? If it's FPS games, ok:pp

The internet browser is pretty crappy, but I always seen it as an afterthought.

I can check my email on it, which is good enough for me on the go. :D

The essential bases like emails/quick news updates/directions and help are well covered of course.

But actually sitting down and using it as a browser for a good 30mins-1hr isn't that great, that's what I really meant.

hmmm let's see... Here's a list of the things my PSP can do- can your PS3 do these?

1.) Play Games

2.) Surf the Web

3.) Play Music (portible MP3 Player which can also run my car audio)

4.) Watch movies where ever i'm at (porn FTW! :D)

5.) Take all my pictures with me wherever I go

That's just out of the box- now the extra stuff you can do after CFW installed

6.) Download .Torrents (yes there is a PSP torrent client)

7.) Emulators! Everything from NES, SNES, Gameboy, GBA, Sega, PS1, DosBox, TONS of emulators

8.) File Explorer for managing PSP structure independently

9.) StepMania!

10.) Un-zipping / Un-rarring utility (for more PSP independence)

11.) WiFi Sniffer

12.) Universal Instant Messaging Client

13.) Universal Infrared Remote for many devices (most commonly the television)

14.) Google Maps

15.) PSPTube (A youtube application where you can actually download and save youtube video's on your PSP)

16.) Skype!

Right now I have my PSP setup where it can run 100% independent from the computer, I can download- unzip, unrar, install, anything I wish without the need to hook the PSP up to my computer and that's why I love it.

What other handheld device can do all that?

afraid not my friend, you please attempt to do 1/2 the things I mentioned at 1/16 the quality and I will give you sexual pleasure- no joke.

I've put my PSP up against both Ipod Touch and the IPhone with people at work who are blind Apple Fanboys just to show them that not only do I have more features, I have faster response time, and I can get more done in any given moment.

granted the Iphone and PPC's are better in certain aspect because they are designed FOR that task... the PSP wasn't designed to do 1/2 that stuff, but it does... and VERY well- that's the point.

Just think if the PSP was designed to be all those things, just how amazing it could have been!

Comparing Touch and PSP:

1.) Play Games - No comparison... PSP rules.

2.) Surf the Web - The Touch is a few parsecs ahead, sorry.

3.) Play Music (portible MP3 Player which can also run my car audio) - Doesn't even need a comment on this one...

4.) Watch movies where ever i'm at (porn FTW! biggrin.gif). I'll give them a tie here.

5.) Take all my pictures with me wherever I go - Touch wins for me.

That's just out of the box- now the extra stuff you can do after CFW installed

6.) Download .Torrents (yes there is a PSP torrent client) - Yeah, available on the Touch too.

7.) Emulators! Everything from NES, SNES, Gameboy, GBA, Sega, PS1, DosBox, TONS of emulators - Some are available for the Touch too.

8.) File Explorer for managing PSP structure independently - There's shell acess to the touch, you can't beat that...

9.) StepMania! - Uh?

10.) Un-zipping / Un-rarring utility (for more PSP independence) -Don't know about that one...

11.) WiFi Sniffer - Yeah, there's that too

12.) Universal Instant Messaging Client - Also...

13.) Universal Infrared Remote for many devices (most commonly the television) - Not that usefull, but ok, 1+ for the PSP.

14.) Google Maps - Touch +1

15.) PSPTube (A youtube application where you can actually download and save youtube video's on your PSP) - If downloading is your deal then yeah PSP wins, if not then Touch wins.

16.) Skype! - Only available on the Slim model.

Oh, and my cellphone does all this stuff too. I could even run a web server available through wifi. S60 Rules :)

What I'm trying to say here is this: The PSP does all that neat stuff, but so can many other devices as well. Hell, I have 2 PSP's, one fat and one slim and love them, but you seem to be a little too excited about yours.

Firkup for skyping on phat psp- really you need to sit down and use these applications before you judge them- they are really well made- every argument you have put forth has been because of hardware design

I haven't used the Google Maps on IPhone yet but the one for PSP is a multi-channel mapping program, you can get Yahoo maps, Google, or another one I can't think of at the moment in map view, sat. view, and hybrid- plus it saves the maps for offline use.

Plus as far as emulators go the best i've seen has been mario 1 playing at really bad FPS where the PSP plays every emulator I can find at no less than 30fps... but that again is a hardware argument which really doesn't stand place.

The point is... the IPhone, IPod Touch was Designed as a multimedia mobile communication device whereas the PSP was designed as a mobile gaming station and they stack up comparably to one another.

Every scenario i've put an Iphone user in I have been able to complete the operation in question quicker on the PSP, that's all i'm trying to say. (other than answering a phone call of course lawl)
