drotaru
Is anybody here that has switched to ubuntu , or any other linux distro for that matter and also is a WoW player what is the performance hit vs. windows?. This is not a flame post , this is just me trying ubuntu for a diferent experience , however the one game that still manages to cling to me is wow and i would like to play it on ubuntu aswell, so i would like to no who is it doing on ubuntu (i have found some tutorials on how i could make it to work with ubuntu by means of Wine) This might seem like a less techincal post than most here but please if anybody can give me any information about it , or direct me to some other website that has insight about this matter (except the ubuntu forums wich i have allready found :D ) i would realy appreciate it. Borbus
Actually the latest Wine may not be the best. 0.9.48 seems to be performing the best for 3D applications at the moment: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=arti...tests&num=
theresiststance2003
I've used CrossOver Linux, and it runs beautifully. I've also heard Cedega works, but I've never tried it. http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxoffice/
Foub
There is also PlayOnLinux and Wine-Doors as well which offer presets for games and the like and they are freeware. http://www.playonlinux.com/en/ http://www.linux.com/articles/54920
UKer
It runs fine, but I loose about 5-10 fps when compared to it running on Vista, which makes some parts quite jerky - hence I play it on Windows and use Linux for work. It became very jerky when there are a lot of users and when flying. I have a good GFX card (8800 GTS) and fast connection so they weren't the issue. I also had the settings at default in Linux while maxed out in Windows.
