They're going to announce 100% backward compatability for all models like they should have had to begin with?!? Sweet!

How would GOW3 or Killzone 2 be a huge announcement? Everyone knows those games are coming.

If they went on sale that day...that would be a huge announcement.

Geee I wonder what it could be... Home? LOL It'll be awfully late to release it but May is still in Spring and that's when they're going to release it last I heard.

EDIT\\

It's in July now, aw that sucks, if its Home that's really late.. lol

Sorry to spoil all the fun, but I've an ear close to the ground on this one, and I know that its going to be a free Play Station 3.

Ok, I'm not working right now. So PS3 is out of my budget. I can hope this is true. No?

How? even with software emulation that will not promise 100% compatiblity. The thing is I don't think backwards compatiblity is that important to Sony anymore (it was a great selling point to begin with though) considering the 40Gb has no PS2 support and apparently there is a new model (based off the 40Gb) coming. If anything, they might announce a new model that will have 100% backwards compatibility (i.e. they figured out how to make the EE + GS cheaper) but I doubt 40Gb owners will ever see PS2 compatibility (I could be wrong, but the feeling I get was the 40Gb was never intended to play PS2 games, period)

However, I think the announcement won't be on that at all. My guess is it might have something todo with the recent Blu-Ray victory (I'm probally totally wrong, but somehow I get a feeling Sony really wanna rub it in MS's face that they won) of cause this is purely my opinion and should be taken with a grain of salt.

I wonder if its a US DVR for the ps3...I'm going to pick up a ps3 once there are enough titles/features to make it a worthy purchase

Not possible because the 40GB/80GB models don't have the physical Emotion Engine chip so 100% is not possible for those models.

Re: Backwards Compatibility,

I think Sony has the right Idea, that it's a selling point when the console is new, and more irrelevant once there are enough games for it. I for one don't care for backwards thinking, I mean Backwards compatibility....

I would like to play Final Fantasy XII on my PS3 in decent quality (lol) but I had to buy the 40gb version due to the fact all major UK suppliers now don't sell the 60gb version, so a software update including BC for all would be a great plus, maybe throw in some PS2 upscaling and antialiasing in there, might breathe new life into aging PS2 games, especially in the HD generation.

The UK PVR looks exciting too, cant wait to see if it will communicate with cable or satellite.

As for Home, it still needs a bit of work done to it (I have the good fortune to be beta testing it) but it's slowly but surely getting there. Not too far off a release I hope.

EDIT: I completely forgot about E3 this year, man it sure has lost it's illustrious grandure as the MUST-SEE gaming event of the year.
