[Suggestion] Mark Post as Answer

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to mark a particular post in a thread as the answer to a question. This would be particularly useful in Forums such as Programming, OS support, etc. Not so much in General Discussion forums. You could then have the answer post immediately highlighted under the original thread starter's question, or a "Goto Answer" link.

Not sure what everyone else thinks, but I think it would help some people a lot.

I for one would love a feature like this. (Y) Would be very useful in particular forums such as Internet, Network & Security & Programming forums.

This idea was just implemented on another forum, and I was thinking of suggesting it here.. but you beat me to it.

I like the idea (Y)

I think it is a good thing for some forums and not others, as some problems may have more than one solution. But overall I think it is a good idea, as someone could have a problem that has previously been solved, and they can see (if they search) a thread that has a solution to it.

If the thread starter can flag the problem as solved, that would be great. It doesn't prevent others from posting in with relevant alternatives, but it does let people quickly see at a glance that this thread contains information that did solve the original problem the thread starter had.

I agree, I see it as a win win. Nice idea!

Wow, that's a lot of responses.

It was actually the MSDN forums that gave me the idea, as I find it increasingly useful.

While we all appreciate the vast amount of replies, it is often the case where people scan through till they find a post that interests them.

If you were to use a 'Goto Answer' link, it might be best renaming it a 'Goto first Answer' link, in case of multiple answers.

Marking an actual post as being the correct answer to your question is going to be rather difficult to do via IPB. There's a lot of development effort involved in doing that, and frankly I think it's a feature that Invision would need to include out of the box before we could consider it.

Neowin already uses a lot of modifications to IPB as it is. Whenever it comes to upgrading IPB, the reason the forums are always offline for so long is so we can put back in all of the mods that we've previously written. Whilst this is a nice idea, I think this would require a very large amount of development effort on our part.

Then lets move away from IPB :p J/k

Oh well, it's a nice idea, but if that much work is included, nevermind it
