sundayx Veteran Posted March 22, 2008 Veteran Share Posted March 22, 2008 Let me let it out: There should be a universal remote port that allows any remote to plug in any console/PC. *runs away*
TokyoKiller
My opinion is this ; Precision FPS gaming is NOT for consoles. As long as it does not support mouse and keyboard.Heck no, no serious FPS online gamer will ever convert to playing the same games on consoles. Joypads for FPS gaming (without some sort of autoaim) cannot be used when playing fast pasted games. You just cannot get the same control. The control you need can only be gained by using a mouse and a keyboard. Also, with the amount of custom material for computer games, like maps and things like that, the consoles need to get alot more dynamic with the way they handle games and their material/content, as well should game programmers be when coding games for consoles. Both the X360 and the PS3 has harddrives(or harddrive support, utilize it). Custom material is the key to the success CS,CS:S,TF,TF2 and many more games have had over the years. like halo 3; WHAT THE F***, PAYING FOR A MAP PACK?!"#? I am sorry, but that would put me in that category but in the other sense. That I converted easily to Xbox 360 from PC, my first game to start was Gears of War. Right now I play Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 on my Xbox 360. I always end up at the top of the server, I don't think that you should speak for all of us who game on PC and consoles, speak for your self if you cannot adapt to console FPS gaming. Tech Star
The KB and mouse is the best for FPS, but you will get used to it after you start getting your as* kicked in online by many people.

Thats great that u always rank at the top of the server, but you missed his point. He wasnt talking about how hard it was to switch, i think what he was trying to say was FPS' are just meant to be played on kb/m because its more precise. drbobiii
Yeah basically it just takes getting used to. It won't ever be as good as a mouse and keyboard, but it can be close. Although it's true the PS1/2/3 controllers are terrible for FPS games.
vf-
How about this addon for the PS3... ? Swappable analog stick and mouse ? Playstation 1, 2 and 3 game support ? Adjustable sensitivity (Mouse sensitivity) ? All games supported ? Firmware upgradeable via computer ? Programmable buttons via computer ? Sony PS Home and web browsing support ? Frag button (Slows down targeting movement for better aim accuracy.) ? Programmable motion features ? Full sixaxsis motion control "The FragFX finally makes the console gaming waters safe for PC gamers to swim in," said Cisco Schipperheijn, CEO of Splitfish Gameware. "We created the FragFX to enhance PlayStation 3 owners overall gaming experience. We believe that when consumers compare the cost to upgrade to a Vista Game System relative to the PS3 and FragFX combination gamers will see the benefit." http://www.splitfish.com/manual_fragfx.pdf

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted March 22, 2008 Veteran Share Posted March 22, 2008 Alot of the posts in this topic are treading the fine line of being flaming and/or trolling. Stay on topic please. In regards to the question, you get used to it, simple as that. Truth is it will probably never feel better than a KBM combo, and no doubt it is not as precise, but once you get used to it, it is just as enjoyable with either control method, as after all you are doing the same thing with either/or, and that is playing a video game. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted March 22, 2008 Veteran Share Posted March 22, 2008 ...and I can't get used to using both my thumbs for movement/aiming on COD4 or other FPS games :o Is it simply a case of trying trying trying and trying to get used to it? It's all about being comfortable. Each game has it's own controls, but usually the same types of games have a similar layout. After awhile you'll get used to using a console controller. It took me awhile but I have no problem. Now I can easily switch from a mouse & keyboard to a controller and vice versa.

Yep. It takes some time to get used to it, but it's not that bad. People act like controllers are a ton worse than mouse and keyboard, but it really depends on how well the game implements the controls -- as long as they're made with controllers in mind and not a crappy port, things usually go pretty smoothly. I got rid of my gaming PC and switched to a 360 and haven't looked back once ;)
gunnerhkjp
KB+Mouse will always rule, but you get used to the console controller when you get into a game. I got used to it playing goldeneye.
EnzoFX
You will get used to it! Just solider on. Yes KB/M is more accurate, but let's be honest...the future of FPS (and most PC games) is on consoles. You kidding me? Might as well start another "pc gaming is dead" thread.... EnzoFX
Honestly, for FPS' those analog sticks DON'T feel right. They got us by before, but we definitely need something new. Next generation, I expect something to rival a mouse. The Wii's gimmicky control is somewhat in the right direction. Seriously, they feel primitive for FPS'. For Racing games, I prefer the D-Pad, better accuracy! For 3rd person, rpg's etc. The analog sticks do work. Maybe in the next xbox/ps4, something with a D-Pad, 1 analog stick, and something that'll offer great precision in aiming. Seeing as how guitar hero is doing so well with those guitar controllers, and how the wii's games come with their own add-ons to the wii controller, MAYBE a future 360/PS game can release they're own adaptations. Similar to Time crisis. Though that guncon sucks. Maybe the Wii is starting a trend here...

Neo003
I was PC gamer too, but to play original halo I bought Xbox and never looked back (of course for doom 3 and HL2 I did). But you started out with the oddest controller you can play games with in console, I had trouble too when I first picked up PS2 controller. I started out with The DUKE and like it or not it was a good controller for my hands, but then they came out with better controller S or something. The point is you have to keep playing in order to get the handle on the controller. COD4 is a good game to start with but make sure you play on easy first since you will take less damage and probably wouldn?t die often.
Windam
It took me awhile to get use to it, but I'll always prefer mouse and keyboard :)

WastedJoker
Well, I managed to get my hands on a FragFX (they're sold out EVERYWHERE) on eBay. I'll post a review once I've had a go.
