anthony
I see alot of "voided warantee" talk, but just so everyone is aware, he never had a warantee. Sony considers any resold system a voided warantee, he bought it off eBay not a retail channel, he doesn't have proof of purchase, and Sony wouldn't have done anything for him in the first place except charge him 150 dollars for an out-of-warantee repair. zeta_immersion
even if bought on ebay with no warranty you would pay 150$ for a repair instead of 500+tax for a new one ....
dragon2611
I see no purpose of opening it because you never turn off(same goes for a black out) a eletronic if your updating the firmware, if that happens the eletronic firmware will be corrupted and will NOT boot up. Depends on the Device, in some cases providing the Bootloader is still intact then all is not loss. Bricked my router yesterday due to a bad flash, BUT the bootloader survived I was able to get my hands on the linksys recovery utilility and as the bootloader was intact resend the flash which Brought the thing back to life.. Used to play with the firmware in older Nokia's at one time so its defaintly doable. Wander if the PS3 has some kind of meathord for accessing its bootloader, bet it does but I wouldn't know. The Easiest recovery would be if the Bootloader is clever enough to look at the Blueray drive/USB for a firmware image. If I was designing the system thats how id make it but then I didn't design the system... http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/About/Sy....html#update_PC You could try shoving that file onto a cd and putting it in (or a usb stick) I very much Doubt it will work. but you might get lucky
