subferno
I would like to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows XP Pro. Is it possible to use virtualization in Ubuntu to log into Windows as if I was booting into my normal Windows account?
markwolfe Veteran Posted March 22, 2008 Veteran Share Posted March 22, 2008 Well, first, you can access your Windows partition(s) from Ubuntu to play MP3s, edit Office files and what-not. If you need to run one of your Windows apps, wine might be able to handle it. But that's not something you should count on. Finally, the next-to-last option is the one you mentioned, virtualizing a copy of Windows from within Linux. That has its drawbacks, too. It's going to be a little slow, plus I believe that Microsoft requires a separate license for that extra "install". The last option is also the first, most obvious one. If you have Ubuntu and XP on the same box in dual-boot, and you need to be in one OS or the other, just reboot into it (as long as you don't need to do this 20 times a day).
