Crackler
I set up my dual boot system with Vista and Ubuntu 7.10 (first time Ubuntu user :D ). I have things running smoothly for the most part but I have a few hardware/driver issues. I've done some research on them and found some solutions, none of which have worked for me. First of all, I have no audio (Creative X-Fi series). I found some beta drivers but couldn't get them installed. Secondly, I can't get my DiNovo bluetooth keyboard to pair properly even though the OS is "seeing" it. And thirdly (is that even a word :p ), I want to configure the buttons for my MX Revolution. I installed Locomo (sp?) but couldn't find how to run it? Anyways any hlp would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

markwolfe Veteran Posted March 23, 2008 Veteran Share Posted March 23, 2008 Audio. Are you sure you aren't muted? I'm not sure what changes and such you have done by this point. Could I ask you to boot a Knoppix LiveCD? I have had good success with sound working in Knoppix Live. If it works there, we just peek at the config and match it in Ubuntu. Bluetooth keyboard. I dunno. I never have messed with bluetooth, since I don't have any bluetooth devices. Mouse. I have a standard 3-button w/ scroll, so don't have specifics, but if X is set to handle all inputs, then it should just be a matter of making assignments in Gnome (I assume that is what you are using for a desktop, since you said you have Ubuntu, not Kubuntu or other derivative)
Crackler
Well for the sound it's a problem with my sound card. Seems as though ALSA (?) doesn't support it, Creative only has 64-bit (beta) support for it and the beta drivers I found from Opensound.com I couldn't get to install. For the mouse I'd like to configure the Back/Forward buttons and the Search button for example.

Fish
Well for the sound it's a problem with my sound card. Seems as though ALSA (?) doesn't support it... It's not ALSA, it's Creative. They haven't released any documentation for the card to the ALSA team, and they say they simply haven't got time to reverse-engineer a driver. Is this the site you found for the Opensound driver? http://www.opensound.com/download.cgi Some people are saying that the DiNovo keyboard "just works"when you plug the dongle in... but this guide may help - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=227057
Crackler
That's the correct website for the sound drivers. I just couldn't get them to install. As for the Dinovo, I went through that entire how-to and had no luck. :( Thanks for all the help. :D
Crackler
I downloaded a different package for the sound drivers (.deb instead of .tar) and they installed flawlessly. :D I've tried everything I've found to get the Dinovo to work and it just doesn't work. When I browse devices it sees my keyboard but when I click on "connect" I get an error that says that the location is not valid. Strange though, since it displays the correct address for the keyboard.
Sikh
Well ok. I havent seen peopel suggest this but, if you have drivers or anything for windows already that work, and cant find those same drivers for linux(but first priority is find them for linux) then YOU use WINE. Wine will emulate windows to Linux, so MOST windows programs work on linux. Or, you can use NDISWRAPPER, which is a wrapper for linux that lets you use windows DRIVERS only. You can only install drivers, but through NDISWRAPPER you run a command "ndiswrapper -i sourcetodriver" and you will have that driver installed and your hardware working flawlessly. So, I would say, to try wine first for your logitech drivers and your dinovo drivers. Heres the link to installing wine on linux courtesy of Ubuntu Wiki. Which is something I couldnt find last year becuase they didnt have it, now its amazing, step by step instllation help for Ubuntu specifically which gurrantees it will work. Ubuntu Wiki: How to install Wine There, I hope that helps. Its a simple 5-10 minutes, try it in there, if your DiNovo still doesnt work, let us know, ill refer you to Ndiswrapper which is alittle harder to install becuase its a pain, but it will work becuase it flawlessly installs any driver as long as you have the .inf file from your windows drivers directory. Or, just use the exe. Cheers.
Fish
In all honesty, I don't see how running the DiNovo software installer in Wine is going to make any difference... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=5...ighlight=dinovo This thread is interesting. Many people are unable to get a mac address for the keyboard (as, it would appear, you can't either), but they are saying that unplugging and plugging-in the dongle at the login screen allows it to be found. Weird. If it's any consolation, I had to jump through virtual hoops trying to get all the buttons working on my MX1000, but with a bit of perseverance, I got there in the end. I'm sure there is a solution to your keyboard problem somewhere.
Crackler
On my MX Revolution the Back button opens link it's hovering in a new tab. I'll try reconnecting the bluetooth dongle at the login screen when I get home later.
