undefined symbol: gzopen64

Recommended Posts

Okay so I was going through installing stuff for mono and I came across this problem saying something like

symbol lookup error: /usr/local/lib/libxml2.so.2: undefined symbol: gzopen64
I can fix it by removing
/usr/local/lib/libz.so.1
but it keeps coming back on me.

I also keep getting some crap about libpng12:

/usr/local/lib/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2)
which I've also tried reinstalling. This was actually the main cause. I went to fire up synaptic to try and fix this.

Ooh I also have a lot of packages (that I want to keep) keep showing up in autoremove. When I mark them all to be reinstalled it says

E: I wasn't able to locate file for the restricted-manager-core package. This might mean you need to manually fix this package.

E: Unable to lock the download directory

so I unmarked it and reinstalled the rest but they're back in autoremove again.

Edit: Well now I can fix the second problem by deleting

/usr/local/lib/libpng12.so.0
but i have a feeling it will respawn like the other one. No idea how to fix the last problem with packages in autoremove Edited by Kreuger
