funkyjunky
Is there another distro that's better than Ubuntu? Because Ubuntu's kinda getting on my nerves :p I'm still going to give it a chance, but nothing's going right for me.
markwolfe Veteran Posted March 31, 2008 Veteran Share Posted March 31, 2008 Well, without knowing what specific things you have issues with, and what specific items or behavior you require, I cannot answer, except by throwing random distro names out there. And that won't help.
funkyjunky
I don't know.. maybe it's just not for me.. but I have Windows and am too poor to buy a Mac...
markwolfe Veteran Posted March 31, 2008 Veteran Share Posted March 31, 2008 Ok... XP is your answer then. Good night. I am off to bed.
funkyjunky
Ok...XP is your answer then. Good night. I am off to bed. Nope. No way. Never. I hate Windows. I'm going to try a few other distros maybe, but definitely stick with Linux. And also, start reading up some ;)
SoapyHamHocks Member Posted March 31, 2008 Member Share Posted March 31, 2008 You might wanna try some other window managers before you switch distros.
Unto Darkness
How about OpenSUSE? You might also want to try the Ubuntu 8.04 Beta.
atlef
I do like LinuxMint which is based on ubuntu, but it is a better out of the box experience then ubuntu. atlef.

And also, start reading up some ;) Well, maybe you see why we need something specific to work with. If you say you don't like "A", but don't say what you don't like and what you require... What are we supposed to do but give you random alternatives?
night_stalker_z
OpenSuse and Fedora are quite good but I prefer Debian based distros so Debian/Ubuntu is best. You can try Kubuntu 8.04 when it comes out as KDE 4 looks really nice.
Tews
I made the switch to Ubuntu about three weeks ago, and on the whole, 90% of everything worked right out of the box. The remaining 10% took a lot of time reading through the various forums, posting questions and trying the fixes suggested. The Linux community is without a doubt your best source but you HAVE to be specific about your problem if you expect any real help. So try to post the answers to these questions 1. What version of Ubuntu are you using 2. What is the exact problem you are having 3. What are your system specs With this information 99% of any problems can be solved! However you have to give us something to go on. I was able to solve 100% of my problems and am now 100% Ubuntu! Good Luck!
kyro
yes there are better, but its all your personal perspective in end.
mitch00
Please define "better" kyro. :p
rson451
alias kyro=rson451; better: more suitable to your needs. OP: no distro is any better than another unless you know what you want/dont want in a distro. the only way to find something you like is to give them a try. we could spit out quite literally 400 names of distributions and say each is better than all the rest, but you will only know for yourself once you install them and generate your own opinion. +BudMan MVC Posted April 2, 2008 MVC Share Posted April 2, 2008 ^ exactly! Why I hate these whats the best "X" threads. And then the the OP gives no clue to what they are looking for, or even mention what features they need, or what about a specific program they do not like. Its like saying chocolate is better than vanilla, or that strawberry is the best. You can not rank or compare anything without something to base the comparison on. A car gets "better" gas mileage than a truck, but a car can not tow a boat up a freaking mountain.. So the truck is better, etc... etc.. etc... If you want to know what the "best" X is -- best at WHAT??? Better at WHAT???
pyther
Well I'd say Arch Linux is better, but then you probably don't want what I think is better.....
