+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 1, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted April 1, 2008 Recently released in Europe is Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (coming to the US on April 19, 2008). The Blu-Ray disc version of the game comes with an advertisement for the upcoming PlayStation Network social community, Home. The advertisement displays the features of Home along with some of the requirements. Great to see they are getting it out. Source: http://www.psnathome.com/comment.php?comment.news.856 Did anyone else get this? Good to see Sony advertising Home out in the public. If it's going to steal thunder from Live, it has to be a well known name! Maybe also a hint at Home coming soon? ;)
sambrentnall
i got his inside my copy but forgive me if im wrong but i thought i got a copy of this in my copy of rockband. I still don't think its going to steal the thunder from live though, its still got a long way to go before it even matches live in my eyes. The new store is a step in the right direction and so is home but i still have doubts....
spenser.d
Not to mention Home isn't what needs to compete with Live. Live is an infrastructure. Home is a 'game' built on top of an infrastructure - the PSN. The PSN needs to compete with Live, and it really doesn't have a name for itself like Live does. -Spenser

However in my eyes all Sony need to do to steal thunder is offer a comparable service to Live, then all the comparisons of paying vs not paying will sprout up. Heck those comparisons have started long ago, and carry on now, but everyone knows right now PSN can't compete evenly with everything Live offers till Home/In-Game XMB are out - More so than the store, a face lift for the store is needed, but the store was at least functional before, In-Game XMB and publicly available Home, are not functional just now. It will/should/may offer everything Live does and maybe more, in a new fashion. Copying Live 1:1 would create what I'd suspect would be a stalemate. The risk is doing everything in a "new fashion", but I really think Sony don't have any other option. If they want to try and superceed Live they need to evolve on it, not just copy it. It may not be your idea of evolution, but the gamers/developers will decide that over the next year or two. PSN/Home are one, they will intertwine to offer Sony's competition to Live. It's not going to be PSN vs Live, or Home vs Live. It will be PSN & Home vs Live.
Xerxes
I didn't get it in my Prologue case. I'm curious about what the requirements for it are? like how much HDD space it needs to install? and what speed broadband you need for it to run smooth? I'm curious about what the requirements for it are? like how much HDD space it needs to install? and what speed broadband you need for it to run smooth? The beta is 500mb I think, and from what i've read release should be around that as well. I'd suspect broadband of any speed would be "ok". It's not like your sending a ton of information to and from the servers/others PS3s. Unless your streaming video in Home.

Sam
I got it with my Prologue, but it is just a bit on the back of a leaflet advertising PSN.
EnzoFX
I think Sony just needs to get it out, and get it stable. Then, it will steal thunder, if only in publicity. People will hear and talk about it. When the emerging market comes in, you know when MOST people buy a console, when the price is under $300, It will steal "thunder" from Live. Hell the average buyer probably doesn't use live. Simply because, they haven't bought a newer console, and their last console probably never saw online play. If you look at the big picture, Sony is only behind a few years. Really no big deal. It will catch up this gen. And it really makes sense that Sony waited, because in the long-run it hasn't affected them much. Last gen was definitely not about DLC. Tell me about it... :( But, this public advertising of Home is a good sign. Means they are confident it will "come soon" I'd say. Well it has to come soon for Sony's sake, but you know what I mean. Once you start seeing global advertising you can hedge your bets on the project coming along well. Live and Home/PSN can easily coincide, I think the only grounds for debate on the coinciding element is one company continuing to charge for online play, and the other offering it for free. If Home/PSN can emulate Live well, and maybe even exceed on it, I think MS will be hard pushed to continue charging in the wall of comments/publicity they'll get. People will still pay for Live regardless though, but that's because they wouldn't have any other choice. If you want to play Halo and any of the other 360 online experiences, you're not going to starve yourself of it, you're more likely to cave in and fire up that subscription again. I'm rooting for PSN/Home to do as good as if not better than Live, not just because I like the PS brand as you'd expect, but really because in this day and age I do not want to be paying to play my games which I've already spent money on, online. Xbox could easily get away with it, as the PS2 could never touch the Xbox with online, let's hope, or at least I hope, Sony can be a lot more competitive and force change in the console/online market (Y) We've already got enough new expense with DLC, we shouldn't need to spend more to play games online as well, IMO. So even although some of you wouldn't go within 100yards of a PS, spare a thought for what Sony could evolve console gaming online play into - A free experience, like it's online big brother, the PC. And if anyone on here is going to choose paying > not paying for the sake of it (not because of inconsistencies in quality between platforms), hell, you have some seriously strong loyalty on the go, heh :p Edited April 1, 2008 by Audioboxer
