StandingInAlley
Hey Guys! I just finished with 1 month long exams [ Basically these were my 12th grade final exams] and so my parents decided to gift me a PS3 since my x360 conked off last month plus i was wanting one from a long time so today when i came back from my last exam, my PS3 40GB was sitting on my bed waiting for me to be un-wrapped. It was basically suppose to be a surprise gift from my parents but to my utter annoyance When i un-boxed the PS3, i started checking the parts and saw some very visible scratches on the front part and lots of other scratches on the back of the main unit. I felt very annoyed and thought that my parents gifted me a second hand console but according to them they picked the console from Sony World showroom over here and didn't bother to check the inside since they thought its gonna be brand new. The controller looks a bit used too and when red lights were blinking when i opened the box. So basically after paying 600$ [ 40GB model costs that much over here ] , i basically have a console thats scratched and looks used :/ I am very annoyed with this and tomorrow i plan to take the PS3 with me back to the showroom. I expect better stuff from official Sony showroom instead of packing an old one and sealing the box as if its brand new. I feel cheated :( Btw my parents also got me Resistance : FOM , The Eye of Judgment with PS Eye and bonus cards and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 :) Edited April 1, 2008 by Prince17
EnzoFX
Well that definitely sucks. Hell I've had more luck with buying used stuff. But I assume they'll take it back and swap it for a new one. Maybe it was a mistake? A Sony Showroom, Show-Floor model?
SomeAzn
Just return it and get a new one. Never heard of that before, but at least you didn't get a box of rocks or something.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 1, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted April 1, 2008 I've got no idea what they sell at showrooms. It could be 2nd hand/refurbished? Take it back and get it replaced. Your parents didn't open it at all to check everything prior to you opening it?
StandingInAlley
^ no nothing. They were under the impression that its brand new since the box looked sealed with the cello tape. The bill invoice says its brand new and they have charged me the full 600$ too. This is a first time that something like this has happened with me. I would have gone there today to get it replaced and all but i came very late from the party plus refurbished or second hand stuff is not sold over here in any Sony World show room's
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 1, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted April 1, 2008 I'd just say take it back then and keep your cool explaining it was like this on unboxing. I wouldn't leave it long before going back. By the way, once you get a new one, it will have scuffs in no time anyway :p Trying to keep the PS3 completely mark free is like kicking a glass ornament down a set of stairs and hoping it doesn't break

I don't know who you are and why you even started this post. The post is definately a fake. Until you post the reciept photo and the scratched PS3 photo. I hope this isnt another April fool joke attempt. ---- netcivilian

PS3 RRP is ?299 here which is roughly $600 (to be anal, it's about $580/$590). Dunno why he didn't just say ?300, I assume because the majority of this board is no doubt American/Canadian? Alfista
in turkey 40 gig WITHOUT ANY GAME or extra anything is 700 US. dollars :( when i bought it 3 months ago it was 700 US dollars at least... and games are 100 dollars... anyway back to the topic. I dont think it would be used. Maybe while boxing the console someone scratched it dropped it or something else and did not want his ass to be kicked and just boxed it anyway. I hope you can change it... let us know.
webcivilian
My Bad for assuming you were from the US. Are you the same guy which had those photos of an Xbox event in India which Kotaku used? Is there a return policy in India? If there is I would totally make use of it. --- netcivilian
