+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted April 2, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted April 2, 2008 I thought i'd take part since they had a price drop which actually makes it seem pretty dim buying a 360.. I mean, you COULD buy a 360 Premium for for ?199.99, then the wireless card for ?59.99, then then the 12-Month XBOX Live subscription for ?39.99 - which brings the total up to the same initial cost of the PS3. But then you get all that wireless networking and online service built-into the PS3.. but then you also have bluetooth, Blu-Ray; and a nicer-looking, more reliable machine. So I picked one up. Why not? I did notice theres a distinct lack of games though. I picked up GT5 Prologue, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Devil May Cry 4. Any other games/accessories I should look into? I'm up for any genre. crazzyyfool
I would say to avoid Orange Box Half Life games though. Its a really bad port from the PC version. The pants graphics and the constant pauses for loading content getting very frustrating after a very short while. Having said that, the other games in OB like Portal and Team Fortress are great though.

I was an avid PES fan, but i got FIFA 08 because PES is riddled with frame rate issues and other crap. And really, FIFA 08 is brilliant in its own right. If it levels out at the same price with the addons it wouldnt be dim to go either way. At the end of the day not everybody is gunna need a wifi or a live subscription so its good to have a choice and save some money. For reliability the 360 is just as reliable nowadays (especially consoles made in the last year) and theres a bigger games selection. Not that im slagging off the ps3 but choosing consoles is not a no brainer
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted April 2, 2008 Author Subscriber² Share Posted April 2, 2008 Well I mean 'dim' in a very light hearted way. I would think that a nice-looking box with everything integrated, more USB ports, Bluetooth and the expensive Blu-Ray technology all built into the console would make it a better deal than a 360. But I agree the games are a little cheaper and there are more of them on the 360. But hey. I would probably pick up Call of Duty 4.. I was seriously considering The Orange Box too. I used to play the Source games on my PC before it decided to choke. Now I'm not so sure. I heard bad things about Uncharted as well (From my friend.. But still), he said it's absolutely awful. Should I just ignore that and go for it anyway?
crazzyyfool
Ignore your friend. Uncharted is an awesome game. Once you play it through on Normal difficulty you'll wanna play it through again on Hard and Crushing. Maybe have a go of your friends Uncharted if you're still unsure. Orange Box is good if you like the HL series but don't expect awesome graphics like Uncharted or GT5:P. The pauses for the loading with OB are the most annoying thing. Thats another good thing about Uncharted, the game gets cached to the HD as you play. The only loading time is when you first install it and load it up. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted April 2, 2008 Author Subscriber² Share Posted April 2, 2008 I've had a 360 before, but I've sold it before. I was in the market for another gaming console (Since I had none). So I had to make an informed decision.. I know this is the better machine. For me anyways. Plarkster
I've been thinking about getting a PS3 or an Xbox 360 - I was looking at getting a 360 but I'm tempted with a PS3 now as I think it will be the better console/media center in the long run. Plus they're pretty much the same price overall once you throw in Xbox Live Gold like the first poster said. I currently own an original Xbox and was disappointed when MS stopped making games for it - I know they wanted to support the 360 but they could have kept making games for a bit longer - Sony STILL release PS2 games even though it's much older! A few things though - what's the online like? How does it compare to Xbox Live? Does it have something similar to Xbox Live Arcade where you can download retro games? I'd love to get the Orange Box - is it likely a patch will be released to fix the problems? To me, the PS3 and 360 seem at about the same level now - there's not much between the graphics but I'm expecting the PS3 to push past the 360s capabilities over the next year or 2. There's no platform exclusive games tying me to either console, so which do you think I should get?
Coldgunner
Personally I think the PS3 has a brighter future, the online connectivity is great. stuff like downloadable games etc are a little short on the ground but its gonna expand quickly IMO. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted April 3, 2008 Author Subscriber² Share Posted April 3, 2008 I think the online aspect still has a little way to go to match up to the 360's. But it can easily match/surpass it. Perhaps once Home is finished. Plus it's free. But the accomplishments are a bit pointless right now. You dont feel like you've gotten anything out of it unlike Achievements.
