webcivilian
This is really fun. I love you Boz. You're my hero. You destroy a topic really elegantly. Anyways I got a phone call from BestBuy a week back telling me that they are sending me some gift certificates to buy a blu-ray player as HD-DVD does'nt exist. Microsoft screwed me as I bought not one but two HD-DVD add-ons for the the two 360s that I have. I have 4 Xbox 360 controller and 6 PS3 Sixaxis controllers. I've also pre-ordered the DS3 from Amazon (snagged it for $49.99 during march) which is arriving Monday. Let's get ready to rumble??? (I mean with the controller not with Boz and the PS3 posts :p; And I know you are going to reply with some great comment. Love to hear it.) --- netcivilian
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted April 3, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 3, 2008 Since we're crying about the revision of controllers, remember when Microsoft decided to replace that bloated first gen XBOX controller with the controller S? I don't ever recalling MS doing anything different than Sony is now.IMO Boz, you're nitpicking bud. Anyone in this thread can see that. Also arguing with you seems to fall on deaf ears. I see no issue with it... its like when my launch xbox came with bigger "duke" controllers, then they later released the much better controller-S. ffs Why do I even bother with this place anymore.. :x It's not the same at all! Why can't you people understand that sixaxis to DS3 is adding rumble, whereas duke to controller S was merely a change in size and button positions. I think you mean they made the experience better with the S controller. Thats what DS3 is about a better experience for the gamer. Whether it feels better (S) or vibrates (DS3). Experience matters. And people want that. --- netcivilian
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted April 3, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 3, 2008 I know exactly what I mean thanks, and making the experience better with controller S is certainly not it. I was a duke fan, and always choose it over controller S if the option is there. The only reason you'd ever need to switch from Duke to Controller S or vice versa is for comfort reasons, never functionality. It's the same "experience" in game, using both controllers. Full stop, no ifs or buts about it.

magik
BTW does anyone know SIXAXIS is a palindrome? I only found out today and quite interesting... Haha, yea that's pretty cool! I never noticed that either... you think they were going for that the whole time?
PyX
Is this a bad april 1st fool? Ohhh you got me there ... you got me! There's not enough games that took advantage of Sixaxis. It was a cool feature neverthless. :(
Ajapi
A new product replacing an old one is just a natural progression in technology. Xbox fans who criticize the DS3's late introduction are just plain dumb. When the Xbox Controller S (an actually useable controller) was released, was Microsoft expected to trade in the bulky original one for the new one? Were future customers "cheated" because they got a better product? No! It's just part of a product's life-cycle.

RatherLargeBear
Wow.. I cant believe people are still comparing this move to Microsoft changing the duke to the (S). Its totally different. Microsoft did not remove/add/change any functionality/features with the switch, whereas Sony have.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 3, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted April 3, 2008 (edited) Wow..I cant believe people are still comparing this move to Microsoft changing the duke to the (S). Its totally different. Microsoft did not remove/add/change any functionality/features with the switch, whereas Sony have. To some a feature of a controller, is it being smaller/lighter/more comfortable. Just saying. Why do people buy smaller MP3 players, smaller mobile phones, smaller this, smaller that? Why do people upgrade from DS Fat to DS Lite, PSP Fat to PSP Lite? Anyway, this is god awful pathetic the extent to which some people are whining their asses off. You can really feel the love amongst gamers in here. You'd think some people are guys on/with periods. Thank god Sony aren't changing the PS3 itself, I could foresee the apocalypse. To be fair a massive console change would deserve the criticism this blooming peripheral change is seeing. People saying DS3 coming out > Any change MS/Sony have made to their ACTUAL console themselves. I mean, WTF? You don't need to agree with the change, but suck it up, the response from Sony gamers is positive, and that's what Sony care most about - Pleasing the fan base/majority. Not trying to please everyone, especially the people who hate hate hate on the platform - Chances are you'll never get people like to admit when something good has been done in relation to a platform they despise. Everything has been running great in the NW GH on the whole for quite a while now. Not many out of order rants like this for quite some time - And not many topics needing moderated either. Huleboeren
I say again What would you guys rather have Sony did? Postponed the release the PS3 indefinitely until they could make up with Rumble-guys(forgot their name) They were in a lawsuit you know What would rather say to the public when you cant have rumble? A. Its just not possible the complications caused by motionsensivityB. Rumble-guys wont play with us and we lost a lawsuit so erm..yeah.. Obviously it was not their intention to now have two controllers but WHAT COULD THEY POSSIBLY HAVE DONE? Develop their own rumbling technology? yeah, might aswell wait for rumble-guys >_> Edited April 3, 2008 by Huleboeren
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted April 3, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 3, 2008 I don't understand why a mod would discourage discussion? Nobody is name calling or resorting to personal insults (from what I've read). As far as I can tell, it's a healthy discussion. Not sure why you'd want to end such a thing. Meh, Neowin. :) It was my friendly way to advise certain people to keep moving on. Especially when certain people cannot afford anymore warnings. Especially when I have seen plenty of members go from civil to crazed at the drop of the dime in these so called civil discussions. I was trying to help some people out before it was to late. So yeah, Meh, Neowin.
Master Ryu
What's all this fuss about the Sixaxis being discontinued? Wouldn't the new Dual Shock 3 controllers provide both rumble AND sixaxis motion functionality? Wouldnt' that be a step forward? I don't see the logic in complaining. TruckWEB
HDMI vs controller? Let me think about this one. HDMI doesn't GIVE ME any features man. How can you compare the two? HDMI is just convenience so I use one cable instead of 2 for video and sound. Component + Optical give me the same thing. There's no difference. I use component + optical and the games feel and look absolutely the same as someone using the HDMI console. My big 50" Sony HDTV can't do 1080p over component. It needs HDMI in order to go to 1080p. So there you go, one added feature for the HDMI port on the Xbox360. Will MS swap my old X360 for a new one because I need HDMI? I don't think so. Ajapi
"Controller S was a size change, but didn't add features." Oh please. A controller is 90% about how comfortable it is. If anything, rumble is a much lesser "feature" than size is. Besides, people seem to be under the impression that the SixaxiS will be rendered obsolete and won't work in future games or something.. what's this about having to buy a DS3? I tell you, sometimes there's no pleasing people. They couldn't release DS3 from the get-go. Fair enough, maybe it wasn't the ideal way for things to turn out. But would you people have preferred that Sony never released DS3? Or that they magically called every PS3 owner for an exchange program? Get real
Sethos
The Sixaxis is way too light = Less comfortable. Somebody once told me comfort is like 90% :o
gregb0b
I'm looking to buy a ps3 with in the next few weeks. Should I wait for the new controllers or just go ahead and buy a system with a Sixaxis controller?
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 5, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted April 5, 2008 I'm looking to buy a ps3 with in the next few weeks. Should I wait for the new controllers or just go ahead and buy a system with a Sixaxis controller? Depends... If there is stuff you want to play just now, I'd just go for it. If you do buy a DS3 later it just means you have two controllers to use which is useful when you have friends over and such. If there isn't much you want to play just now, and you're buying your PS3 for say MGS4 or GTA4 (I see you have a 360, so probably not GTA4), I'd just wait it out till DS3. So basically, if you really want it just now, just go for it, if not, you might not mind waiting - Only thing is, no one knows an exact date when DS3 will be bundled with a PS3 - Other than we know that the MGS4 PS3 bundle will come with a DS3. You could be waiting a while then!
