How in the world do you play Gran Turismo 4?

I can't stand this game.. How do they expect you to win any races when they slap you with a 5-second "car-drives-uber-slow" penalty every time you make a tiny mistake? Even times when the AI racers bump into me on their own, the game gives me a penalty... It doesn't make any sense.

I don't remember that in GT4, its been a while since I've played my ps2 though, i didn't find too much trouble with it when i was younger.

From what I remember the AI does seem to bump into you, but a small bump does not impose a penalty. That being said, the penalty system is suppose to be an incentive for you to embrace a real driver's line and a real driver's state of mind...

I remember that, was extemely annoying cause it wasn't even your fault! the AI driver rams you and you get penalized for it and if you ram the AI driver, you get penalized for it...so unfair. Still even with that unfair advantage the AI drivers had, I didn't have that much trouble as I just made sure I was driving the most powerful car, so I'd be miles ahead of them and could concertrate on driving :p

Yeah... Unfortunately, That's a bit hard to do when you have just started the game and have very limited funds.

Very true, I actually started with a fairly decent car though (R32 Skyline GT-R which faired very well) as I used my save game from GT3 to get extra starting money.

Well you will just have to learn to deal with it Eric. If you find a series where you can win, race it until you can afford a better car or parts.

GT4 was easy to play through.

Mind you I did have GT4:Prologue before it came out. So I had 'training'.

I wonder why they missed out America for that one.

Here's my complaint with GT4: you have absolutely no idea what kind of cars the AI is going to have. Hell, I win the races, even have the cash to upgrade my cars. I go into a series, and watch the demo, to get an idea of what kind of cars they'll have. But once I actually join it, they can have something significantly different enough to where your pretty much screwed. The only other alternative is to completely all out and get the best car you could afford, etc. In this case, I win by lap(s). Come on, I want it to be competitive!
