osirisX
Every time Apple releases a new set of Get a Mac ads, a lengthy flamewar begins. Nothing good comes out of these threads so they should just be locked on sight. I'll point to the current one in Apple General as proof.
Unto Darkness
Well there is no harming in informing those who don't know about them. I would say that people need to be more impartial when making comments, instead of banning posts made by someone who has no intention of starting a flame war. Cormier6083
Agreed. If we could find a way to post the thread without any posts. That would work.

WooSH
i agree. how about "post all apple ads here" thread. honestly we dont need to have an update about this everytime. They were funny the first time, still funny the second, then the third they were bashing. seriously, we get the point now, they arent cute clever or whatever anymore. to those that think they are, fine, u are entitled to watch them as you please, but it is it absolutely necessary that you expand this piece of info to every message board, forum and digg-like site? Dane
People could.....ignore the topic all together? It's rather easy. Some people think they are funny some don't, it's life move on. Don't like it, you don't have to read it.
Unto Darkness
Agreed. If we could find a way to post the thread without any posts. That would work. We could just delete all the comments and lock it. But it might not get "bumped" so it will be hidden away by all the newer posts. Maybe we should just ban threads discussing anything remotely hinting at a Mac vs. PC. Denis W. Veteran Posted April 3, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 3, 2008 While I'd like to agree, if this goes though you'll have to apply that same treatment to every small little thread about Vista that degenerates into a flamewar. Main difference being that, surprisingly, the Apple threads are cleaned out and closed more often than the Vista ones. But yeah. All these threads are so freaking predictable it's funny. For these Get a Mac/Apple marketshare up/something related threads, the following four things always happen: - Someone pulls up marketshare numbers. Someone else dismisses them as insignificant. - Posters who sport Apple imagery tell the posters to 'suck it up' and generally smile at the status quo. - Posters with very pixellated signatures and avatars ( :p ) use the old beaten-to-death excuses of Macs being unproductive and lacking of games. - Those same posters comment about the cost of hardware as if giving a damn about someone else's wallet matters a lot to their lives. On the flip side, for Vista threads: - People propogate the DRM-up-your-arse horror tales. - Someone rebuts a comment about slowness with a "I get higher FPS in Vista" as if there's a real difference between 105 and 110 FPS - Someone rebuts a comment about RAM usage with the comment "memory is to be used" - And finally those same posters with pixellated signatures and avatars post a comment about "BUY NEW HARDWARE YOU CHEAP XP SKATE" for posters complaining about their hardware being too inadequate for Vista when ten seconds ago in another thread they blast those dudes with those shiny antialiased avatars for buying overpriced hardware. Come to think of it, flamewars on the Internet are as every bit predictable as the media. ;) </sarcastic rant>

John S. Veteran Posted April 3, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 3, 2008 The threads are no more polarizing than IE/Firefox/Opera, or the Sony/MS wars in the gaming areas. Should we shut those down as well?
Unto Darkness
The threads are no more polarizing than IE/Firefox/Opera, or the Sony/MS wars in the gaming areas. Should we shut those down as well? Good point. It all depends on the discretion of the poster. Nothing more can be done.
Badtz-Maru
I agree with the OP. They're ads, would Neowin appreciate it if I started posting links to my hypothetical review site in the reviews section? No. Then why would they want people to post Mac ads in the Mac section? sanctified Veteran Posted April 3, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 3, 2008 To be honest, and you know I use a Mac by choice, I can understand how many people find those ads annoying. Why we should censor their opinions? I mean, that shouldnt affect us, Mac users.

osirisX
Anyone give me one good reason why a thread should be kept around that EVERYONE knows is going to end up with people arguing and making mean comments about each other. The current Get a Mac thread was thread cleaned on the first page! And is now just 5 pages of crap.

I say keep them! And if we keep them we get 20+ posts just like yours. Not saying anything bad about you, but we get the same post over and over again. Why not just go "+1"?
