GT5 Prologue car damage in Autumn

Recommended Posts

UK, April 3, 2008 - It may have taken more than a little time for Polyphony to warm to the idea, but Gran Turismo head Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that the series is finally going to be implementing damage, saying it could be included as a downloadable feature for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue as early as this Autumn.

In an interview with IGN earlier today, Yamauchi said that, "maybe by Fall we'll be able to implement it," before confirming that it would feature as a download for Prologue, which launched in the UK and across Europe last week. Gran Turismo has long been famed for its refusal to include any vehicle deformation, despite heightening demands from its fan-base, and any inclusion of the feature would be a massive boon for the series.

We'll have the full interview tomorrow, including Yamauchi's verdict on working on a Formula 1 title in the future, so check back for further details.

Its official, they are doing it, cant wait to see how extensive it is and how it will affect the gameplay!!!!

this should postpone the release of GT5 for a few months. because every single car will have to be redrawen with various damages.

good news though.

P.S. Fenerbahce sux.

they've probably been working on it for months, but only announced it now because they're initial testing was probably ok, the hold up is getting the manufacturers on board.

for all we know the cars may be ready for crumples etc and may just need an update to the game to enable it.

Best news is this being free DLC for Prologue (Y) (if they can get it in Prologue)

Anyone with half a brain, knew after we'd been told the 80th time damage was coming, it would be in GT5.

LOL, it'd be totally absurd if they were going to charge for car damage. It better be free. I just hope they do a decent job. I want to be able to totally wreck the car if I would so choose.

PD aren't ones to half do something, it'll be either be no damage (like up to now) or proper realistic damage (GT5), that's my take on it.

It was confirmed in a video interview, ALL DLC for Prologue will be free!

Thank the lord that damage is being introduced. For such a beautiful looking game, with cars crashing into walls and flying across scenes with no damage spoilt it. Perhaps it may change my mind over getting it in the end...

i guarentee they will NOT release a DLC with damage for prologue. not gonna happen

They've hinted at it in interviews, so I really don't know how you can "guarantee" anything... Unless you work for PD. You may have to eat those words :p

I mean,

saying it could be included as a downloadable feature for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue as early as this Autumn.

Yes it's a "could", but that doesn't guarantee it either way.

GT5 Prologue: "Major update" this year

Vehicle damage, community building features coming later this year, Yamauchi reveals to CVG

Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed that a "major update" is coming for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue later this year, which will add among other things long-awaited vehicle damage.

In an interview with CVG this afternoon, Yamauchi said that the update will also have a big focus on enhancing Prologue's online modes, starting with the addition of various "community building features."

The last bit will come as particularly excellent news to PS3 owners, as the GT5 preview is currently lacking somewhat in the online department.

You can expect the full interview with Mr. Gran Turismo very shortly. Who says it's 'just a demo' now, eh?

I hope the damage is implement in that when a part comes off the car, it goes flying across the track and get in the way perhaps.

That would be sweet, as long as the others people car pieces dont wreck your car, but it would be nice if you could still feel it, like lets say you drive over a bumper you can feel the hop on...

Damage like Burnout Paradise? LOL.

but realistic, if a bumper get knocked for example and falls off it don't magically disappear and stays on the track and gets in the way.

i'm 98% sure that all the cars were originally rendered/created in a way that they could be "damaged" in the game if necassery...

I think Flatout on the 360 has the best idea of debris and car damage. Bits everywhere. Nice to see, but it was sometimes annoying to play. A perfect lap ruined by a bit of debris in the road.

I hope it's not like other games out there, few fender benders here and there. It should be determined by the speed and what did it collided with and should have cripple zone. Also there has to be 360 roll, none of the racing game has this thing, which is common in real world.

Small update on this.

Of course Damage will be a GT5P update, so it will for sure be in GT5. But they said weather is a maybe for GT5.

Sure it's only a maybe but thats better then it not even being talked about. You never notice how cool weather effects are till you have a game that has them.

I never have clear weather in PGR4 to normal, gotta change it up.
