NAT 3 issue

Recommended Posts

i dont know if this is the right place or not but i have a Speedstream 6520 gateway router/modem.

my ISP is a PPPoA. and i have a playstation 3 and i cannot get and stay online with it. i dont know much about networking(but learning as i keep going with this problem)

i heard bridging the modem and then adding a router could fix my issue but then was told i cant bridge because i have PPPoA

so what can i do

if anyone knows about PS3 i am getting NAT3 setting and trying to get it to NAT2

where im behind a router but all my ports are opened.

i have set my 6520 into DMZ and opened the needed ports but i still get a NAT 3.

Or is it possible to get my ISP to change me to PPPoE? or if they are PPPoA is that all they can support?

and changing ISP is not a possiblitly

From looking at the manual for the 6250, and a couple of online comments, it's fixable, but there's a couple of things to note: Any config changes require a reboot of the router, to take effect. And one page lists a note about needing to have uPNP turned off to allow port forwarding.

Apart from that, can you start at the beginning, I'm assuming you've got one device that connects to the internet, your SpeedStream. How have you got your PS3 connected? Wired or wireless, and does it have a static IP? (Sorry if I'm asking questions you're finding too simple, but let's just make sure of the basic's first)

In terms of your bridging question, there really shouldn't be any need for you to use bridging for your config to work, but let's sort the basics and go from there.

and i had a NAT2 before sony did the latest 2.20 firmware update

i have forwarded the ports to the static IP addy, and i stuill bring back a NAT3

According to the manual, NAPT is exactly what you're after.

Can you turn off DMZ and confirm the ports you've got forwarded to the PS3?

From the list I've got, you should have:

TCP: 80, 443, 5223, and Port Range 10070 - 10080

UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658, and 10070

Thanks

If I were in your position, I would dump the router/modem entirely. Use your modem as a standard modem, no router features whatsoever, and buy a WRT54GL + flash it with Tomato.

My PS3 was automagically NAT 2 because Tomato actually supports UPnP.

Just to confirm, those forwarding settings are correct.

And bobp makes a very good point. From reading a bit about the 6250, it does appear to have its problems, there's a few issues people have brought up on the internet when discussing it:

There's reports of Port Forwarding not working with UPNP enabled.

There's also mention that Port Forwarding doesn't like working unless the router hands out the IP address of the client via DHCP

Have you got the "Gateway Health" option on the router setup screen? If so, turn off your PS3, open up the firewall logging section, note the last entry, turn on the PS3, wait for it to get a NAT2, then check the log for what's been blocked.

PPPoA, not PPPoE? Hmm... I don't know about that... maybe you could ask your provider for a standalone modem? My ISP gives out DHCP addresses (once I authenticate w/ my routers MAC address) over ethernet from a standard D-Link DSL modem.

i have a stand alone modem

It should be trivial to set up then. Get your standalone modem working, then get the ethernet from the modem to the WAN port of the router.... and you should be good to go.

I'm pretty sure your ISP will do PPPOe because they're plenty of companies which use this.

I'd bridge you modem put the WRT onto the speedstream and configure a pppoe connection.

This is caused due to a change in the 2.20 Firmware. Many people on the Europe Playstation Forum are complaining about their NAT2 changing to NAT3.

I went out and bought a new NetComm router and it works fine now.
