tmahmood
In the file manager go to the file's property, there is a 'Open with' tab, where you can add/set your preferred application for that file type.

Foub
Wheres the file manager? Look in the Accessories Menu in the "Start" menu. If you can't find anything then go to the Add/Remove Menu and enter file manager into the search box and it'll give you a list of them to install. You have a large choice to get from. i.e. Gnome Commander or Krusader.

Borbus
I don't know why you are all assuming the OP is using gnome or ubuntu... What distro are you using? If you are using gnome, you might have to get the gnome-extras package to get the file associations thing.

Plus, they both can work in any WM as well. I have both. I use Gnome but I prefer Krusader.

tmahmood
ah, File Manager means Nautilus, the default file manager that comes with Ubuntu/Gnome. Places>Home Folder, will start File manager in your home folder if you are still confused , Use <Alt>+F2 to bring up the run Dialog box, type 'nautilus' then enter. sorry for the confusion
