Unreadable memory stick

Recommended Posts

I'm having a problem where my PSP can't read my memory stick. When I turn the console on, I just get a flashing orange memory stick light and black screen. The console works fine with a different stick. I'm not too bothered about the stick itself (it's only 32meg) but would like to retrieve my savegame data if possible. It was supplied with my PSP and is not a fake.

The memory stick is also unreadable via a PC memory card reader. I get a message telling me to insert a memory card when I double click the drive. I have tried the Sony memory stick recovery software which didnt help at all, it seems the stick is completely inaccessible. I know it doesn't look good but can anyone suggest something that might help me get my savegame data back please?

Only thing I can suggest is formatting then using file recovery software, so long as you don't write any new data on afterwards you should be able to recover.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure I will be able to do that because the PSP wont even boot with the stick in and my PC does not realise that a stick is inserted. I'll give it a try later tonight though

Doesn't sound like there's anything you can do unfortunately.

Yeah that is what I thought, but I decided to post anyway just in case someone knows of a solution. Is it worth attemping to clean the contacts on it or anything?

Well you've got nothing to lose really. It probably won't work but there's no harm in trying. However, don't buy any special products just to clean it - you'll most likely end up wasting money.
