ZiGGA
Anybody had this? The problem has just this day occured. Just been on Fifa 08 then suddenly the game music stops and the main menu disappears so I quit the game via the PS button and remove the disk, clean it and popped it back in but got an error saying. an error has occurred during the operation (80010514) So I tried another game, GT5:P after shutting the PS3 down and waiting for a bit, same error code. I done this a few times with different games, some would get to the menus but not for longer than 5-10 minutes whilst freezing. The Blu-ray drive is also making clunk sounds while trying to read the disc which happens every second or so, that got me worried then as my PS3 has ran great up until today. I have been to google looking for an explanation and I found a shed load of people with the same issue 80010514 all with identical problems but I couldn't see anyone with a fix. Each persons replaced I'm under warranty had my PS3 since Jan 08. It's a UK/European model which I bought from a HMV store.
ZiGGA
EDIT How good bad are Sony for replacements? Does it take ages?
soniqstylz
Send it back to Sony. It appears to be a blu-ray problem. I hear it takes about 2 weeks total to get a replacement. This seems to be a common error w/ FIFA and CoD4.
popisdead uk
It doesn't take 2 weeks at all, and its hardly common. :D You're from the UK right? Give Sony a call, explain the fault and they will send a 'refurb' unit out to you with 2/3 days. When they deliver that they will take away the faulty one. The refurb unit is like brand new. Its been re-cased and tested for faults. Sony are superb for customer service.
ZiGGA
Yeah UK. And it does seem to happen more than you'd like to think from reading forums etc, ecspecially the 40GB model, which is the one I bought. I'll call them tomorrow, 3 days seems fast. That'd be nice
popisdead uk
Still only around 3%, well within the percentage for failures on electrical goods
