Singstar Next Gen

Recommended Posts

I have a PS3 40Gb , and have had a PS2 & Singstar for quite some time.

I like the look of this Singstar Next Gen but i need a few questions answering before i buy:

1) I Have the PS2 Mics and adaptors? Will these work fine or do i need to buy some PS3 specific ones?

2) I've read that the disc doesn't come with all the old songs, and they're only available from the Singstore. Does this mean i'd have to buy all of the old tracks again?

2.5) I know there is no Back Compatibility on the 40Gb, and i guess there's no possibility of gettting the songs off my older discs?

3) The Singstore. How exactly does it work? Are the songs downloaded to the HDD then locked to the account? or to the console? What happens if i want to change my HDD at a later date.

4) Is this game really worth getting? I enjoy the old ones, but dont really fancy shelling out a load of money on a new game then ?1 per song on each track i've already bought once just to play it on a different console. Are there many improvements over the original games?

Thanks.

1). Not sure about the PS2 mics/adapter working on the PS3, but the PS3's mic and adapter works on the PS2 so I would assume it'd be fine - wouldn't be much point them selling the game without the mics otherwise.

2). Indeed, I've noticed quite a few songs that were on some of the PS2 variants are available on the SingStore. You would have to buy those if you wanted them. There's no way you can do anything with your older discs without backwards compatibility.

3). If you wanted to change the HD, there is a backup option in the XMB which will back all of your saves, etc up to a USB storage device.

4). If you enjoy the old games then yes. Best to take a look at the full track listing to make sure that it comes with enough songs that you'd like. There aren't really any improvements to speak of other than better quality video, but that doesn't affect the way the game plays. It's much the same, just different songs and online store integration. Oh and it has the ability to save performances and record video via a cam (I've used the 360's cam on the PS3 which works fine for this).

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm not sure about this yet, but i'm sure i'll get it in time, might wait until theres more on the Singstore, or perhaps until they make the songs a bit cheaper only major disappointment is that i have to re-buy all my old songs .

Do you know anything abut the plans for the future of the Singstore? Are all new releases going to be done through that? Do you think 99p/song is going to stay, or is there a chance they'll drop it, particularly with the older ones?

2) The disc comes with 30 songs, ~200 more available at the singstore.

2.5) I guess not.

3) The singstore works like the PSN store, but better imo. Downloaded songs are not locked to accounts. I've downloaded a song with one account and played with another just fine.

4) That's really up to the songs on the disc and the ones available online. If you already have them on the PS2 maybe it's not worth it. There's also the online component where you can share videos and recordings with other users.
