ps3 question

i was trying to get a 60 gb or 80 gb ps3 because of backward compatibility, but wasn't able to find one. i heard that sony might take the path the xbox 360 went with its backward compatibility fully software emulation, instead of having the ps2 parts inside. has anyone heard anything about it? ide really like to see a firmware update one day that allows it...

No one knows.

Might happen, might not.

If you think BC is crucial to you, buy the 80GB MGS4 pack ;)

AFAIK, PS2 games will be buyable from the PS Store and playable on 40gb PS3s, but the games will have to be stored on the harddrive itself. Obviously, any PS2 discs you have will be unusable on the 40gb PS3 and you'd have to pay again to download them.

Don't think of it as "Maybe, Maybe Not" as it implies a good chance of it going either way. This is untrue and unrealistic. Think of it as 99.9% likely that it won't ever happen on the PS3.

And what conclusion can you come up with that makes it that certain NOT to happen?

Sony have briefly hinted at it's possibility - http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=182248

After pulling off software emulation of PSX games on a PSP, im certain Sony have a good bit of experience with emulation.

Of course they're highly unlikely to pull of a really high % of compatibility, but like MS, with full software, the best thing you can do is get the classics working.

Sony will flat out say things and they don't deliver, let alone hinting at something :p

I'd love to see it happen to, but I really doubt it.

Well they are fulfilling most of their promises nowadays :p

And working on the old ones!

PS2 games on PSN is a money pit waiting to happen (with the amount of classics/size of library to dabble into). Right now though with the PS2 still selling in retail it doesn't make a lot of sense from a business POV to offer PS2 games on PSN.

All that will do is drive sales away from retail which ensures the PS2 leaves retail quicker!

It's already pretty much nearing it's death, so all Sony would be doing with PS2 games on PSN is speeding up it's death - Not something they want to do with the money they make on it ;)

Once it's out of retail then PS2 games on PSN make much more sense to continue brining in money under the PS2 brand.

PS2 titles on PSN is quite reasonable therefore, if you ask me - But it's not something I think we'll be seeing soon. Expect to see things like a movie store/home/in-game XMB and everything else tied into PSN first :p

I Would love this lol, feels like a waste having all of my PS2 games... I still have my PS2, but I would much rather play the games on my PS3 to be able to throw out my PS2.

I am not going back to PS2 games after playing PS3 at High definition :shiftyninja:

let me sum up

When i gave my XBOX to my 12 year old cousin with 25 games i was crying inside. So sad to see Halo 2 going away from my hands... Of course PS3 made me forget about xbox.

So one day when i saw my cousin playing halo i was like.. THIS CANT BE THE GAME I ENJOYED... graphics were outdated of course... Although i love to play god of war that was released on PS2, i dont think i would ever buy because of this reason.
