crazzyyfool
Played this for a bit last night. What a disappointment! Don't know why, but I was expecting so much more. MGO is just a COD4 wannabe. I'll have more fun with GTA IV next week I think.

MightyJordan
Only played Bloodbath but the maps are very small Small?! They're bloody huge! Whenever I play, it takes a long time to come across someone, be it deathmatch or team deathmatch, and the smallest game I've been in so far is a 10 player team deathmatch on Groznyj Grad. Cormier6083
Are there only two maps? I rather Groznyj Grad to Bloodbath. I don't feel so cramped.

Corris Veteran Posted April 26, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 26, 2008 Well I've had a good go in the last two days. When first playing it yesterday I forgot all the controls straight away after reading and playing with them, they were slightly more complicated than I thought it would be. Out of the two, one of the maps can seem a little too big, I have gotten lost a few times going in every direction but the enemies. But i enjoyed it, though it feels a little slow paced, but that's the type of game it is, so its OK when your use to it. Then I went on this morning, played a few rounds, team death match, and the base one, and well, I'm really enjoying it now. :D Whatever switch needed to be turned on for me to get the controls has been. I understand the principles of the game now, really good fun. I spent about 10 minutes just running and rolling around in a canister on one game, other players don't seem to know what to do when a canister is rolling towards them at high speed, hehe. And I spent another game only using mostly only the knife, 3-4 enemies were going through this small area and I knocked them out one by one via choking all next to each other, then just killed them while they were down. But great satisfaction comes from helping an ally getting shot at by coming from behind the other player, holding them, and letting your ally shoot the crap out of them.
Keito
Played this for a bit last night. What a disappointment! Don't know why, but I was expecting so much more. MGO is just a COD4 wannabe. I'll have more fun with GTA IV next week I think.I wholeheartedly disagree with you on that one. MGO isn't trying to be COD4 at all if you ask me - it's slower and to succeed as a team you have to work together way more than in COD4, where a team's performance can be determined by one of two good players. The general feel of it is very different as well if you ask me. I have to say though, it's not perfect, but for me it's fun enough - 'sneaking' up on a group of enemies and then trying to get rid of them. However, I wish they would somehow increase the accuracy of the guns a bit - the over-the-shoulder view isn't really that accurate for longer distances. Sethos
Well, here's my second impression after spending some more time with the game. I played for a few hours last night, where i had some great rounds but also experienced the downsides of this Beta. The Matchmaking system is quite fast to find a game. You join the game lobby, where you always need to wait about a minute since most people have no clue where the "Start" button is on their controller. The map was Blood Bath, where you get in a firefight very quickly due to the size of the map. Even after playing the game for as many hours as i have, the controls still seem overly advanced and extremely annoying at times. And i know a lot of people must think this too, because when i run around i see players doing the must stupid things, standing around for ages, skipping around because they are struggling with the controls. I have even seen players looking at me for ages just to get a lock on me, so you have loads of time to turn around and pop them in the head. Using the cover system, focusing on CQB, trying to use clever tactics is worthless in this game. Everything is being overshadowed by the sheer power of a rifle and the 3rd person view. I have seen people trying to sneak up behind me, something you can't miss in a game allowing you to use a wide 3rd person view. You always have time to point your rifle at them at take a shot. The cardboard box implementation is a joke, there's no other word for it. They placed 2-3 'static' boxes on fixed locations, so when you have played the map once, you know where they are. So when you see a random cardboard box ANY place else, you know It's a player. Drebin Points is also in this afterthought alley. First round you can afford a standard AK. Next round, you are pretty much guaranteed to afford anything you like! After my first round, i had a fully decked out M4. They really need to tone it down ... Also mentioned in my first impression was the Frames Per Second issues. I noticed this was a persistent issue on Groznyi Grad. The map doesn't even look technically advanced, but It's so poorly optimized it just eats the FPS. This Beta isn't very impressive. Considering how close we are to release, i have very little faith in MGO. It seems like one big afterthought. They seem to have 'borrowed' features and ideas from a lot of other games, but they haven't improved upon them, just toned them down and made it their own. The game is too complicated, more than it has to be. But again, it is a Beta so they do have the benefit of the doubt. But as I've said before, i have never played a Beta in my life that strayed too far from the retail product. So i have very little faith at this point. popisdead uk
Good post, with some very good points. Lets hope they iron out these issues before launch, but I do agree; it feels like an afterthought.

Gavin001
Quite enjoyin the game, dnt really knw why so many complainin abot the controls there pretty straight forword after a few mess around round...the only annoyin thing is the side menus when u hold L2 or R2 but with a double tap u can switch thru the last like 3 items u used! Only some things annoy me a little bit like in the really small map it is so easy to just use the CQB and take the guy to the ground then shot him on the ground with the pistol and also as some1 else said if u see some1 runnin infront of u and u think i'll just run up behind them and CQB them they will see u way before ur even close to them lol! Still a super fun game which im likin :D
