Gamespot gave gran turismo a 7.5

Recommended Posts

This is a quotation from the review

"Gran Turismo 5 Prologue's price tag goes some way toward addressing the fact that this isn't nearly as comprehensive an offering as a full Gran Turismo release, but paying 25 pounds (or US$40) for what is essentially an extended demo of an upcoming game still doesn't represent good value for the money. If you're willing to overlook the dearth of content, the lack of damage modelling, and the problems with online play then by all means get behind the wheel. Otherwise, you're probably better off waiting for Gran Turismo 5 proper. "

i thought they would give this game a 7 but went with 7.5...

This is the lowest score for a GT game since GT1...

I dont play GT, havent played any for more than 5mins in a shop never having owned a PS before (will be getting a PS3 soon but) however 7.5 does sound about the mark at least based on the mixed responses I read in the prologue thread here. I get the feeling its a release they could have skipped and maybe cut back a bit and just made it a free beta or something for GT5.

7.5 isnt THAT bad really...I've enjoyed games that scored in that region.

I'm not surprised. I'm still unsure why Prologue was released, except to generate some easy income. I've got racing games out the yin yang, I don't really need a big demo of a future game, especially not for $40. I think that the time and resources spent on Prologue should have gone into getting GT5 a quicker release date than a year from now. I'd rather play Forza 2 and patiently wait for GT5.

Prolly didn't pay Gamespot the "Give us a nice review" -money that companies like EA do.

Or the "give us a good review or we'll have you fired" threats. EA = The Devil.

Although not a PS3 owner and not having played GT since version 1 - I have often wondered why people pay so much for a big demo/advert for a forthcoming release. I am not trolling, I am seriously wondering if I have missed the point. I mean, does Prologue contain stuff that the full release doesn't? Cos it seems a lot of people buy both!?

because of excitement... i mean i never played a GT game before much.. just at friends houses.. and always wanted a GT so GT5 prologue drolled me when it was released for PS3...

but now i find it to be an unnessecary purchase... :(

graphics are great but the game does not have any soul.

So it's just a cash cow, milking those who can't wait for the final release?

Are you guys beta testing the final release in a sense?

unfortunately yes... :(

thats my argument all the way...

PD is reading these forums and making the game better while charging us 40 bucks :)

anyway i will look at the good side of the game from now on...

great graphics....

oh but again the game is soulless and no damage...

i cant look at the good side anymore :(

I don't know about the beta testing part (especially since there are apparently issues with the online play) but I think you nailed it on the cash cow part. I get the impression that they're just trying to make some easy money. "Here, we're still working on this game, but for $40 you can play what we've finished so far" It just seems insulting to me.

They didn't got money for a good score :p

Seriously... Where is the final GT on PS3?

The Xbox360 already have Forza2, Project Gotham Racing 3 AND 4 ??

Thanks for the honest replies and not "Sod off you 360 fanboy". I just never really understood it...

I've found Neowin to be populated by less manic fanboys than other sites. If you ever make a pro-360 comment on PS3fanboy.com you'll be crucified for no reason. People think here, so I'm happy.

I wanted to see what the game looks like and let's face it, the 29e I paid for it is peanuts - also I'm having a little fun with friends online.

Seriously? Are we all still wondering, trying to understand why polyphony releases a prologue? Weren't we over this like, years ago? Come on guys. There's a very simple reason why they make prologue. This is the Best prologue ever. And Will be the best selling one...

If you don't get it, don't buy it, you aren't the target audience.

Did people throw up this much fuss when they released the previous prologue version?

I see prologue aimed at 'hardcore' GT fans needing something to satisfy themselves before the full game is released.

ANOTHER Prologue pricing/release debate? ... I thought we had 20 already

As for the 7.5, fair enough. Not many professional review sites are going to give something like Prologue a 9 overall (maybe a 9 for graphics if they break down their scoring ;)).

It's not GT5, and it would be slightly daft for Prologue's score to be the same as what GT5 will no doubt get.

I think an 8/10 which is the average (metacritic), is right.

I know this has been beaten around already but I really think that review has made some good points. That is a lot of money for a glorified demo. A stripped down version of the final game, which for all intents and purposes contains nothing the final won't have, and lacks the most basic of modern racing game requirements - damage modelling.

I think this is a really poor shout charging for this, it should be a free download.

I can understand people saying it's too much for them, but as I've said many times, find me a CONSOLE game with this amount of content, multiplayer and DLC support which is free?

I doubt you'll find anything when we've got developers charging for every map, horse armor and small addons to games you've already paid full price retail for.

Most beta downloads on consoles also expire at some point as well (I've heard people saying Prologue = beta test), GT5P won't expire. You could own Prologue for the rest of your PS3 life, play it, and never pickup GT5 if you wanted :/

Damage has also been confirmed as coming to GT5 and potentially coming as DLC to GT5P.

PD have charged for Prologue for many years, and everyone understands the difference between Prologue and GT, so I really don't understand why we have soo much free:not free debate this generation. If you don't like paying for Prologue, you don't - You wait for GT5 and buy it. You don't need both titles for the PS3 to be able to play one of them.

It's NOT GT5 and it IS fan service, that's the bottom line - Fan service which millions of people buy so they don't mind paying. It's not as if GT5 is out in 3 months, it's at a minimal, a YEAR away. A lot of GT fans have to live with long waiting times, so we jump at any chance to experience GT.

As long as there's an audience, Prologue will always exist, people who moan about it just have to accept that. If it is selling millions and topping the UK charts for a few weeks, then you have a decent amount of people wanting it... At least it is getting better, there's far more in Prologue this year than any previous years, and the games of the previous years had no update/DLC support, or even multiplayer support.

tbh what games are properly final when released? when GT5 "proper" is released, it will get updated just the same as other games, should we call that a beta too?

if you don't want to take the prologue as a separate game, think of it as an expansion pack but before the main game :p if it was a demo it would contain the same races as the "full" game which previous ones haven't and i don't expect this one to. also a demo would expire at some point, this doesn't.

RE the review:

lack of content: i assume this is the number of tracks as there is plenty of cars and races to do (40 + a few for every car manufacturer included). 6 tracks (+ an alternative for each) is ok imo for ?20, if it was ?40 then they'd have a reason for complaint definately.

damage modelling: this is a GT thing and is coming in the future and obviously doesn't put many people off buying i:p:p

online problems: if this is about people ramming each other then that's not the games fault (maybe lack of damage but who knows), if it's the inability to select oponents then i agree that sucks
