Sjokkel
7,5 is what i would give the prologue myself. It's a good car showcase but i would't call it a sim and in it's current condition i would move slowly even in to the racing game alley. It's a mixed bag between Sim and arcade. Certainly the cars look nice in replay, sounds are OK but nothing special, AI is not much to write about... that would make it a 7 maybe... the shiny detail on the cars make it a 7,5. I would call Proloque an expensive beta program. Still curious for the final product though.
spenser.d
Exactly. $40 is nothing in this day and age. ...kgiveme$plz. $40 is a lot. It might just be the college student in me, but I'm not going to pay $40 for what doesn't amount to nearly 2/3 of what GT5 will be. Seems like wasted money. -Spenser
Ricardo Gil
This "demo" is 10x better than any other racing game I've ever played. Maybe if you've been playing Yaris... Take the car models and what do you get out of this game? Doesn't look so great now does it?
PyX
40 dollars is NOT a lot. But the game should have been 30, just because it's a prologue and everything. I know I will get the final Gran Turismo 5, but played the demo and didn't like it at all, so I don't see myself paying 40 bucks just for a small prologue of something big and awesome... Why would you even say that? Of course the car models are one of the main selling points of GT5 - It's for CAR enthusiasts. No one else comes close to GT modeling. Whilst your on that train of thought, might as well take Master Chief out of Halo, Solid Snake out of MGS and the big Daddies from Bioshock! There, now those games don't look so great either  Edited April 17, 2008 by Audioboxer

So while SS makes for MGS and BD's makes for BioShock, pretty cars don't make for "the real driving simulator", maybe "the beautiful car simulator". -- BTW, Halo is pretty generic. Masterchief or no Masterchief, I could care less about it :D

Masterchief or no Masterchief, I could care less about it :D Oh well, I see where you're coming from, but I pretty much rank cars as one of the main reasons I'd buy a racing simulator. It's not as if GT cars handle bad or anything either (as obviously handing matters), many argue they handle the most realistically. So even if you "take all the cars out", the car handling is still intact which goes to making GT still a simulator :p I bought Burnout for fun, I bought GT as it has tons of beautifully modelled cars (interior and exterior) that handle accurately - Many of which I'll only ever see/drive within a game... Two different racers bought for different reasons (for me anyway). I'm not saying I didn't buy GT for fun, but you get my drift when making a comparison between them both. +StevoFC MVC Posted April 17, 2008 MVC Share Posted April 17, 2008 The fact that GT games are still being released without car damage is more than enough reason for me to not even consider buying the game. Yeah, I know the "final" version of the game is supposed to have it. But lets be honest here, it's not coming out any time soon. $40 is a rip off. I think a 7.5 score is being a little too generous. Any racing game that doesn't even take car damage into play can hardly be regarded as a true simulator. Who cares how well a car handles if you can't even damage it anyways. Any racing game that doesn't even take car damage into play can hardly be regarded as a true simulator. Ok it's "3/4's" of a simulator then :p Gran Turismo: The 3/4th of a Driving Simulator PD should have never released GT1 and waited until "GT5 era" due to the lack of damage, caused mainly by manufacturers... Yeah im sure that would have been a good move  Sorry, but I don't understand why people beat the damage thing to death? It's coming now, and it couldn't be done in the past. What would you have done differently if you were PD? As I said above, not released GT at all? Yeah you could say mow down the amount of cars you're putting in the game till your left with the cars damage can be supported on... but then it wouldn't be GT. GT has always been known for the mass amount of cars it has, old and new, cheap to supercars.... and that is one thing that's made it the best selling car game on the market. As what is one of the most important things for car fanatics? CARS themselves, duh! The more cars, the more people you can attract to your game. One reason being, for whatever reason people like to see the cars they drive/use in real life in a game (GT has a ton of "every day" cars) - Then on the other side of the stick, people also like to try out cars they'd never be able to afford/get their hands on. It's gone to number 1 WITHOUT damage, and now damage IS being added.... It's only getting better for the already happy GT fans. So really, why all the damage complaints years after the first 4 titles are out (not including prologues), and the 5th, the one we're actually talking about is getting damage anyway? Edited April 17, 2008 by Audioboxer
Sam
I'll welcome damage, but its not like GT is a bumper cars game. If you drive well enough you shouldn't even see any damage anyway ;)

maeby
im happy i bought it, ill get a decent amount of play time out of it, well worth the 40 bucks. gt5 wont come out for ATLEAST a year, thats a long time! for the graphics alone its worth the purchase, its just amazing. Ultomato
for those who say 40 bucks is nothing, it just isnt worth 40 bucks. you could spend that money full games like crysis, WoW, CNC3 etc... 40 bucks is a lot for a game that has less that half the content of a full game, simple as that. Sam
40 bucks is a lot for a game that has less that half the content of a full game, simple as that. Only when you compare it to the full GT5. Its not a lot for it if you compare it to other games, like NFS.

Ji@nBing
Not that I would disagree with the review (could care less about GT), but who cares what Gamespot says? I'm gonna order me a copy, why not:)) Thats cheaper than a newly released PC game. It is also normally the price ?17 when a game has been on the market for 6 - 8 months or so. How can anyone say its a rip off or have anyone argue with that. Need For Speed:Most Wanted/Carbon when it came out on the PC was like ?24 - 26. As most console games just released are normally ?39.99.
EnzoFX
You guys could argue moot points all you want, But the average GT buyer (I'd say 99.9%) buys it because of the CARS, pure and simple. Those that are a bit more of an enthusiast stick with it for everything else. I'm not going to buy the most realistic game out there, having every kind of detail possible, yet only has 1 car, and a station wagon at that or something.... zeta_immersion
while i go not agree with gamespot reviews at times i do thin 7.5 is fair (maybe a 6 would have been a bit better) .... going to great lenghts to model cars and circuits but no damage, not to mention it is a demo and (except for presentation) is just like any other game (hint nfs pro street yeah i said it) ... not worth 40$ ... they should focus more on the final game and not on some demo (cash cow) .... Sethos
To be honest, 7.5 is not unfair at all. The Prologue is great, certainly brought me a few hours of fun and value for money ( I even bought it twice! ) But It's too 'specialized' to get anything higher. I'm sure they are rating it as a retail product, it does not offer enough when you have those glasses on. Plus it certainly 'lacks' a few features which future patches are sure to fix ( Like a private lobby ). The prologue is meant for those who can't wait for the final retail version and to provide a few hours of fun, but there's nothing in this package worth a grade above 8 ...
